Mauck getting his feelings hurt isn't on Saban. LSU fans will call everyone a snowflake pussy. When one of their players whines like one, that suddenly changes.
Except that the video of him when he was giving these quotes shows him laughing about all of it after he was asked. So he doesn't seem to care too much. He called him a great coach and he just talked about how strange it was at the time (and I'm sure it was as Saban himself has said how he never used to know how to enjoy anything in the earlier years).

Mauck sounds like he needs some Midol.

'Are you guys coming back next year?' Just like that," Mauck said. "He didn't say anything about the game."

I’m not reading 7 pages to see what has been covered, but I will mention a couple things regarding Saban and Mauck.
Mauck only came to LSU b/c of Saban, so everything else really pales in comparison, considering what they accomplished together.
I’ve been privy to many candid conversations about Saban with people who have worked closely with him at LSU and AL. It goes w/o saying what motivates the man, and what he demands from those around and under him. I also have met Mauck and we happen to share the same profession.
LSU’s only loss in 2003 was at home to FL, 19-7, to a Ron Zook led Gator team. The offense scored no points in that game. Mauck took the DAT (standardized dental aptitude test equivalent to MCAT for medical) on that same day, before the game.
Matt has went on to have a very successful practice and career in Denver, but you can bet that was little consolation to Nick back in 2003. LOL
I’m certain their relationship was strained at some point based on differences in their priorities, through no real fault of their own, just different perspectives.

Interesting. So what you're saying is that unlike Cardale Jones, Mauck actually did come to play school?

Yeah, it's unlikely you would see a starting QB for a national championship contending team do that now.
Funny you would throw out an Ohio St name, because it does bring to mind a similar situation there.
Do you remember Robert Smith turning in his coaches for exceeding practice times b/c he wanted to spend more time academically towards his pre-med studies?
Ironically, he makes a living talking about football.

quote:...and Thompson finally washed out of coaching as a DC/LB coach at Blessed Trinity Catholic High School!
Saban hired John Thompson as his defensive coordinator in 2000 and they were on a recruiting tour early in north Louisiana.
Guess who knew north Louisiana? Thompson. Not Saban.
And yet Thompson had to endure a lunatic narcissist screaming in his ear in the front seat of the car they drove from visit to visit.
Thompson said frick it and called Arkansas and got co-DC instead. Away from Saban.
He "lasted" with Saban for less than two months I think. And he was happy about it.
What did Saban say about mediocre people and over achievers not getting along?

First I've heard of that.
Not gonna lie I would have been pretty pissed if I had known that at the time. Was there really no other time he could have taken it? The spring or the previous summer?
@ making my sympathize with Saban.
