This is a really good ranking

I've been pretty clear winning the SEC is definitely a noteworthy accomplishment. Winning a Natty is obviously more noteworthy.
Yes. yet in spite of that you also said this:
No one remembers 2nd place, or who finishes top 4, or top 10. Kirby won an SEC Championship. That's all that's really noteworthy about his tenure so far at UGA.
So in your mind it is more noteworthy to win the SEC than it is to play for a National Championship. makes absolutely no sense. At all.
quote:
Quote me where I said, "only national championships matter."
When you said this:
No one remembers 2nd place, or who finishes top 4, or top 10.
quote:It is relevant to win the SEC, yet irrelevant to play for a National Championship. Perfect logic. Perfect.
Everything else is pretty largely irrelevant.
quote:You want to play "Show me"? Show me the poster that said Kirby is the second best HC in the SEC.
I mentioned beating Saban or Orgeron because some UGA fans act like Kirby is no. 2 in the conference.
I think the pecking order is pretty clear at the top.
Saban
Orgeron
Where it gets cloudy is after that. I mean, Fisher has won a NC, but has done little since. Malzahn has coached for a NC, but averages almost 5 losses a year since. Mullen has done a good job at MState and Florida, but has never won his own division. Kirby has coached for a NC and won his division 3 straight years,
and has been the most consistent of everyone outside of Saban and Orgeron.
Personally? I have a TON of respect for Orgeron. He saw a deficiency in his team and went out and fixed it.
That's why I give a clear #1 to Saban and a #2 spot to Orgeron.
#3-#5 gets cloudy. I put Kirby at #3 because he has been very consistent to date, and is winning and seems to be building. It is silly to compare Kirby Smart to any coach other than the ones that are currently coaching. An argument can be made for Fisher to be #3 because he has won a NC. I am not sure an argument can be made for Mullen....YET. Malzahn? No. He has got to be more consistent.
It is silly to say that the only noteworthy accomplishment a coach can have is winning a NC or winning the SEC, though. Making the playoffs, winning a playoff game are both noteworthy. Nothing personal, but I think if Clemson had beaten LSU in the NC you would be agreeing with me.

I agree with all of this.
To me, Fisher winning a national championship at Florida State isnt that huge of a deal because he doesnt seem to be doing that great of a job at his current school.
We dont rank Miles as a top 10 CFB coach just because he won a championship at LSU.

Stick Kirby at Kentucky or Auburn and see if he wins as many games.
Auburn and Georgia are almost the same distance from Atlanta....the hot bed of Georgia talent.
Malzahn has averaged almost 5 losses a year since he won the SEC. There is a reason Auburn fans want him fired.
quote:
Re; Smart, he's flat out choked in the biggest of games.
Wait. He choked in the Rose Bowl and the SEC Championship game of 2017? or that one National Championship game he has coached in?

Absolutely. At one time he seemed to be the up and coming coach. The hot young coach. but it is looking more like he just caught lightening in the bottle, now.
As I said....the more impressive thing for me is Orgeron making a change. he saw a weakness, and he moved to correct it quickly and got paid for it. (Or will get paid for it) Coaches are notoriously egotistical people, as a whole. tehy have to have supreme confidence in their ability to coach and make great decisions. yet, Orgeron put his ego aside to find a solution to his offensive problems and then stepped out of the way of his coaches so they could do their job.
I think when Kirby Smart gets more experience under his belt he will be an excellent coach. We'll see. he made some moves to correct our offensive woes this off season, so it will be interesting to see what happens....if we get the chance.
I think we are basically on the same page. I just think you are letting some Georgia fans get you upset.

You're really struggling here. I can't help you if you don't see how SEC and National Titles are noteworthy, with the National Title being a bigger accomplishment. The goal for every team in the SEC is to win the SEC and then hopefully a National Title. Anything short of that is pretty unremarkable.

Umm, yes...you won an SEC Title and lost the national title game. You wanna brag about a loss, don't let me stand in your way.

You're proving my point perfectly. It doesn't matter where you finish you don't have an SEC or National Title. Why are you fighting this? If you finish top 4 nationally but you don't win a conference or natty, thumping your chest about your top 4 national finish is pretty dumb, don't you think?
quote:

Yes, what do you get by losing in the natty? Is there a participation trophy awarded that I'm not aware of?

I'd view it the same way I did 2011 -- an undefeated regular season with an SEC title (and a Heisman for this) but I wouldn't be thumping my chest about a natty loss just like I don't the game against Bama. I'd view it as missing the mark, which is winning the game, not just getting there.
I don't disagree with your rankings much; I have:
1) Saban
2) Orgeron
3) Kirby/Mullen/Jimbo(luster is fading real fast off that natty)
6) Malzahn/Stoops

5. Malzahn .667 62-31

10. Mason .365 27-47
11. Kiffin
11. Leach
11. Pittman
11. Drinkwitz
That's a good place to start.
Orgeron has had a hard time beating Mullen. He's 1-2 in his last 3 meetings with him.
That said, I think it's still speculative whether or not Mullen will do a better job at Florida than Smart has at Georgia.
I'd definitely pick Malzahn over Fisher.

How did Missouri was able to win the east two times with less talents than most in the SEC east teams? So the question is for this one I believe Drinkwitz will surprise some of the head coach and beat them. He seems just like Minnesota head coach and another head coach I forget his name also did very well in his first year. The key is who got the easier schedule and a head start with experience. Also have the players be SEC ready to play.
I would group Leach, Kiffin, Drinkwitz in the next 3 in any order then Pittman last.
Do not forget Missouri struggled on offense last year and that worn out the defense. Even though the defense did very well last year they would have done better if the offense were a bit better. So I say Missouri offense should be a lot better with better quarterback as well. Some had both offense and defense problems.

Drinkwitz did beat Muschamp last year! Why people not putting him above Muschamp? Actually Drinkwitz beat North Carolina and South Carolina last year and that should give him the edge over some other head coach listed here.

Odom was not our DC last year. Our DC and most of the position coaches stayed.

Are you joking? I am arguing that they are noteworthy, but that there are also a lot of other things that are noteworthy. YOU argue that the only noteworthy accomplishments are the SEC Championship and the National title, not me.
I think both are very noteworthy accomplishments. But seriously...would rather win the SEC Championship and get beat in the first round of the playoffs, or would you rather lose the SEC Championship yet still play for the National title? Give me a shot at the title every time.
quote:I agree that should be the goal. But playing for a NC is a pretty noteworthy thing. Do you think Alabama is really worried about not winning the SEC in 2011?

Umm, yes...you won an SEC Title and lost the national title game. You wanna brag about a loss, don't let me stand in your way.
But hey. You guys won the SEC, so brag about that.

Not at all. Only four teams in the entire country can say they finished in the top 4. That is stout. You can belittle it if you want, but there are 128 or so teams that wishes they could say they finished in the top 4. It shows progress, and shows you have a pretty darn good team. But hey.....LSU finished #2 in the country in 2011. You can be ashamed of that if you want to be. After all....it really wasn't an accomplishment. By the way...why would you be proud of winning the SEC if you don't win the NC? Nobody remembers who finished 2nd, or 3rd, or 4th, right?
quote:But wait...we won the SEC. We got a trophy for that. I am confused about what we should be ashamed of and what we should be proud of.
Yes, what do you get by losing in the natty? Is there a participation trophy awarded that I'm not aware of?

Then did Alabama hit the mark? I mean, they did not win the SEC, but they did win the National Championship. So, should they be proud or ashamed?

I don't know who's going to read all that, but I promise you, I'm not. You carry on like woman.
Bottom line: Winning the SEC matters, and winning the National Title matters more. Everything else is irrelevant white noise. No one cares who got to play for it if they came away with an L.
You wanna hammer away at your keyboard some more talking about shite no one cares about, fine. Knock yourself out.

Jimbo Fisher??? The man went 5-6 his last season at Florida State. Anyone who goes 5-6 at a place like F$U lacks credibility.

He quit coaching since he was going to be taking the A&M job. Coach do that when you were courted to another school. That is what happened. Some would still try hard but he did not. So it is moot point to say he sucks.
