They’ve won two in total, one back in the 40s. They definitely have the facilities and recruiting, but will they ever take their play on the field to the next level? They haven’t done it yet and as the SEC gets stronger, it seems more unlikely.

Honest opinion, as a UGA fan I do think they will have 2 in the next 6-10 years. I think the toughest thing about the scope of this is Saban and Dabo. Meaning that regardless of how UGA does they will have to overcome those hurdles. Kirby still has some things to learn. These next two years will be telling. You are correct, they have the facilities and recruiting but they needed a more complete staff. I am not sure if they have it this year but we will see.

It will also be interesting to see what happens to the South Florida connection with Coley gone. He was a great resource to have for that connection. I do think we UGA fans will be more patient with Kirby than we were with Richt, because of the more perceived success that has been had under Kirby. But the instant gratification now days will I think rear its ugly head if UGA can't with the SEC in the next 2-3 years. The biggest thing to remember is this is Kirbys first stint as a head coach. Everyone wants to say he is Saban 2.0, but they need to remember Saban was a head coach for a long time before he ever lifted a Championship trophy. He was on his 3 head coaching job before he ever won one.

I think if you look at the route Dabo had, it took 8 seasons for him to win his first, that is more realistic for Kirby. The difference is Kirby doesn't have to build like Dabo did. He has to make sure he has the right pieces in place to make it happen. With all the said, Dabo isn't go anywhere. It seems, if things keep going the way they are, UGA and Clemson, only separated by 80 miles, will play plenty of games in the future to decide the future national championships. Before everyone else jumps on me for this, I do believe Bama, OSU, and LSU will still be relevant.

It takes recruits to build championship caliber teams and they are certainly getting them. They also are playing in the easier to win division of the SEC which gives them a shot at the conference title on a frequent basis. Win the SEC, you get a shot at the big prize. All of these factors are in their favor. They have come close recently and have experienced the atmosphere and seen first-hand the elite level of competition you must defeat if you are going to win it all.

How many teams can really say this about their programs? Not many. It is reasonable to assume that they would be in the mix to compete for a title. 1980 is a long time ago, 40 years. Their time is coming. It will be interesting, in my opinion, to see if Texas A&M under Fisher can get it's act together enough to win one before Georgia gets another one. These two programs outside of Alabama, LSU, Florida, and Auburn, appear to be the most capable of winning one.

And before you Georgia fans ask “will Florida ever beat Georgia again?”, you know the answer is this year when you roll out your C-tier ACC QB and pretend like he’s the guy.

8 Ball says: Unlikely.
It's been 40 years and it might take another 40 years and by that time football might not even be in existence as we know it.

Georgia fans will spend the next 4 years telling us that Kirby isn't Mark Richt, and he will get fired for being Mark Richt.

Same song different verse. Florida fans say the same thing every year.

"Mulllen is the bestest, and we will beat Georgia this year!"

As for our "C-tier ACC QB". Seems odd since that genius of a coach stuck with Alpaca until he got hurt.

"I was in the zone!"

Yes, they will. As I predict UGA will win another National Championship in 2080.
