JM being a yankee had nothing to do with it, Mullen was a yankee and was embraced. JM’s attitude, his culture, and his lack of discipline is why he was fired, not because of what part of the country he was born in.

Compared to JM, Mullen looked like Ghengis Khan as a disciplinarian.

Leach is about Starkville. Mullen put a lot of effort and built interest in a program that was on life support. The school made an investment in all of the programs but we expanded Davis Wade and bulldozed Duby Noble. Starkville (businesses) made a commensurate investment and hotels, restaurants, condos, improvements in the town itself, went through the roof. Ticket sales, attendance, game day stuff were drying up.
I don't know if Leach can win many games but he is a splash hire and he just injected a direly needed adrenaline rush to the school and community.
