The problem is how tenuous where they’re at is. The Big 12 is the only vulnerable P5 league. Texas has viable exit strategies to the PAC 12 or the Big 10. Either would take them. Or they could possibly go it alone. Whatever happens, they have options.

If dominos started to fall, Kansas could be picked off by the Big 10. Oklahoma is now locked to OSU and there is no way the Big 10 would take them. Maybe the PAC 12 would, but likely only if Texas doesn’t land there. Again, they are a package deal and that hurts them.

The issue is, they can’t prop up the Big 12 alone. If UT and Kansas aren’t there, the leftovers are no longer a P5 conference and adding Memphis, Houston, Cincy and UCF wouldn’t change that.

So who could blame Oklahoma for looking around. They know they don’t control their destiny in the Big 12. A move would give them that security.
