If conference championships meant so much then the playoff would only be for conference champs. I agree about a huge conference championship "bump' being a lot more people's opinions than based on actual evidence from the committee.

However, I am not sure that Oklahoma and maybe Baylor are that out of competition for the 4th spot even if Utah, Alabama and LSU win out.

One can certainly see that the committee is not high on Oklahoma right now due to close calls and a loss vs too many 5-6 win type teams.

However, they don't have to play anymore of those type teams and impressive wins @ Top25 Oklahoma St and against Baylor could certainly provide them with a big bump.
