What is the argument for Bama, in that scenario?
there isn't one, and the committee would undoubtedly, without question, 100% positively have utah above them.
The better question is why do you think bama is even in consideration?

So? Bama would probably beat Utah. That would be true even with a loss to Auburn next weekend.
Would you put Bama in over Utah in that case?
Exactly.
And this is the argument that will forever debunk the eye test.

As much as Utah's game vs 1AA Idaho State did
Or Oklahoma's vs South Dakota

Or Oregon's vs Montana
Or Minnesota's vs South Dakota State
Or Georgia's vs Murray State

bama would make more fans watch tv and bring more fans to where ever the games are played. Why is that a question? They are picking not really the best teams but the best teams who can travel and make people turn on tv sets.

From our experience with the Utes in New Orleans in 2008 those folks are passionate and will travel in droves.

The only shot I see Bama making it in is if LSU wins out, otherwise their season ends in a Jan. 1 bowl game.

You can’t... that’s why UTAh will be 6th Tuesday night...
If the Utes win out they are in!

Bama is arguably one of the four best teams in college football. I do think if this is going to be an invitational very tough to select a one-loss bama over a one-loss power 5 conference champion.

It's not a bad question.
The answer is that "other" criteria the committee looks at like "game control" "advanced metrics" "conference championships" etc only come into play when trying to separate teams with otherwise close resumes.
A 2nd Alabama loss would mean that they are not in consideration to the point where the committee begins to discuss "game control" or "advanced metrics" vis-à-vis Utah.
Just like a hypothetical 2 Loss Oregon is out of the conversation before considering their PAC 12 title.
Just like Auburn may also fare well vs Utah in terms advanced metrics and may be a Vegas favorite on a neutral field but AU is already out of consideration.
That said, I think Utah deservedly would be the 4th team if they win out.

I think the committee wants to make it clear they are't Bama friendly and this is the best year to do it (and probably be correct about it).
Honestly - if chalk plays out I think it helps us in the long run. This isn't a great team on our end and the whole "BAMMER ALWAYS GETS THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT" thing will kind of be dead.
Either way, I just want to beat Auburn.

How many quality wins does Alabama have?
I don't know, but I would at least imagine Texas A&M would have a better record than 8-4 with USC's schedule.
Now I am not calling A&M a "good" team or not a good team. I'm simply saying that A&M has losses to Clemson, Auburn, Alabama and Georgia. That's three top 5 teams and a top 15 one.
USC's losses are to BYU, Washington, Notre Dame and Oregon. That's two top 15 teams and two unranked ones.
Yet USC is ranked in the top 25 and Texas A&M is not.

I believe Bama is the better team but if they don’t put in Utah it would be a terrible look on the committee. Both a one loss team but one wins their conference championship game. They would be sending the message that winning the conference championship game doesn’t matter.
Now if Bama actually beaut more than one top 25 team maybe it would be different but auburn would have 5 losses after that game? Just wouldn’t look good at all.
Bama is the better team and we put butts in the seats and eyes on the TVs. Also, if we make the playoff this season our inclusion will be used by the playoff committee to expand the playoff to 8 ASAP. An expanded playoff is what the Pac 12 and Big 12 want because then they can get some at large bids to the playoff and bring much needed prestige to more of their football programs.

Because they are currently #5. Don't be obtuse.
Because they have dominated their "light" schedule they way you would expect a top 4 team too. They don't struggle win against teams like Texas A&M or lose to South Carolina they beat those teams by 3 + TDs every time.
The eye test obviously is important to this committee and UGA does not impress on the offensive side of the ball.
People acting like who you lose to and how you lost doesn't matter. It matters just as much as who you beat and how you beat them.
Ask Ohio State about that 31 pt loss to
7-5 Iowa or Oklahoma State about that loss to a 7 loss Iowa state team. That was 3-6 in the Big12.
There is no shame in losing to the #1 team with a Heisman winning QB by 5pts especially when your all world QB had ankle surgery 3 weeks prior and had not really practiced. It was a game that Alabama did not play well in, but competed til the end against a great team. When you don't play well against a great team you usually get blown out as Alabama did with Clemson last year. LSU is just not that good on defense.
Bama is better than Utah and UGA that is clear. Georgia doesn't have any Wrs that can get separation and their QB has regressed in an ineffective offensive system.

The playoff committee could've made entry into the playoff only for conference champs. They didn't do so for seasons like this and when the playoff was created the Pac 12 and Big 12 were already showing signs of decay so a one loss team from a respected conference would get in the playoff over a conference champ from a weak conference.

Why are you comparing Bama to UGA? Bama's fate will not come down to a decision between them and UGA no matter what happens.

Utah may or may not have a better resume than Bama, but I think if the two teams were playing at a neutral site and you asked people to bet every single cent and possession they have on the outcome and their family would be starving on the street if they lost, I don’t imagine too many people would be picking the Utes.

Alabama is the playoffs

Do you think Utah can beat L1-8U?
Now do you believe that Sou. Cal can beat Alabama?
If you're honest, it's easy.
