Is this like when they played Utah?

I don't think anyone is making that argument, certainly not Saban. I think he's actually arguing the opposite, the young guys were overly anxious not lackadaisical and not caring.

Youve got to be kidding me. I’ve seen a lot of excuses from tiders in the past but trying to say it makes sense that a team is flat and can’t get it up for a game vs the top ranked team that the media called a “must win” for bama to get in the playoffs and tide players said they “felt disrespected at an all time high”
Look, I am not trying to make any excuses. LSU beat us on the field, and kicked our arse in the first half.
I guess I shouldn't have used the word "flat." "Tight" would be the more appropriate word. This has been an issue since Saban has been at Bama in big games. It seems like its gotten worse over the last two seasons or so, as SoG stated.
I just think that LSU had been battle tested, and had played in 3 big time games against teams with remotely close talent leading up to Nov. 9th, and Alabama had breezed through a bunch of teams with talent nowhere close to us, and it showed.
They weren't ready in the first half, and when you show up like that against a team like LSU, considering our defensive woes this season, you are going to lose. Not trying to take anything away from LSU, just making sense of Saban's comments.

sounds like a team that doesn't deserve to make the playoffs.

Saban said that a few times at LSU as well. I remember when we got ran by Eli at home in 2001, he said there was a bad week of practice or bad energy before the game or something.. Shouldn't the GOAT be able to change that??

I'll buy this.

LOL at all of these excuses. I can't wait to play them again in the playoffs. Don't think for a second the LSU team and staff won't feel slighted by sabans comments and the media. O ain't gonna take his foot off the gas in the 3rd this time. We'll hang 50+ on December 28th.

Didn't Kirby use the same excuse after losing to Carolina earlier this year? Shows the culture of never accepting responsibility over there in West AL.

I really think part of it is that Saban wants to remove so much of the emotion, just focus on execution and everything will be ok.
IMO, if you are only worrying about said “execution” then you start thinking about NOT doing something, trying not to lose, trying not to make a mistake. Then, we all know that creates problems. An obvious point of this is our shitty kicking game over the years. It’s been in their heads so much to not make mistakes it’s all some players end up doing

(1) a ton of youth/inexperience who isn't sure of themselves and their ability to do what they are supposed to without thinking (2) first real big game for that youth
I could use the same argument for Stingley who gave up 2 of the 3 biggest plays of the game for Bama. His youth and inexperience gave Bama 2 TDs and kept it close.

Blame Aranda for the complete brain fart of playing press coverage in that situation. Maybe he wants Bama in the playoff?

Definitely. I don't see Stingley making those mistakes the next two years.

Bama sounds like they have low T. Need to get back on the deer antler spray ASAP

Definitely could - I'm not making excuses, I'm trying to explain what he was saying.
Saying that a team (specifically the defense) is youthful and inexperienced isn't an excuse, it's a bottom line description of the roster. Saying the coaching was not up to task isn't an excuse, it's a bottom line description of the coaching.
Rutgers has bad players and bad coaching. I don't think saying that is why they lost to somebody by 55 is an excuse, it's just explaining why they lost by 55. If they had better players they wouldn't have lost by 55.

Don't bring this logic to the discussion. This is about Bama beating themselves.

(a) I have no idea what Kirby said post-USC, but I can't imagine it was centered around youth, inexperience and anxiety, because that wouldn't make any sense
(b) I don't know who is or isn't accepted responsibility in this quote. He's explaining how he looked around and basically saw that he felt like his guys weren't ready/prepared/anxiety free, which is clearly a reflection on the coaches and youth.
They failed.

You are correct LSU didn’t have a chance, they were so lucky to win, even ten more seconds on the game clock would have been all they needed! Whew LSU was so lucky
