I’m finding two major subsets of people and they are both pissing me off majorly:
There’s the group that keeps saying this is nothing, the flu is worse, everybody is freaking out over nothing.
This group is ignorant at best. Educate yourself. This isn’t “nothing.” It’s the worst pandemic since the 1918 flu. The reason is because it’s so hard to detect before you are sick, there is no treatment, it spreads so rapidly and it can kill you. No, it’s not extremely deadly unless you are older and have underlying health problems but it is happening in numbers that will overwhelm our health system like is happening in Italy. They are having to decide who gets treated and who gets left to die. That is why our world is shutting down: to try and slow the spread to a slow, rolling wave we can handle, not a tsunami that will crush our healthcare system.
Then there’s the group who wants everyone to hole up at home and never leave for 3 months until this thing burns out. These people are spreading fear and panic irresponsibly. One of them was a high official at Johns Hopkins University, one of our finest medical colleges. WTF dude?? What an idiot!! This is not practical nor necessary. If it were practical, it would be great and it would work. But nobody is prepared to do that nor should they be.
The measures that have been taken and are happening every minute are necessary in the short term. Slow the spread and keep it manageable. But to be cancelling events 2 months down the road or not leaving an avenue for a possible reversal as more information becomes available is foolish and heartbreaking.
Sorry, I had to vent. It’s been a trying day. I’m getting really worried for my senior daughter’s graduation, her Bama Bound session, rush, her freshman year. Where does this shite end? It isn’t fair to her or the other kids.
