I kinda like the idea that hopefully he will be calling stuff early based on the formation and we won't have someone still trying to organize the defense when the ball is snapped like Golding was doing.
Would agree though that i would prefer him on the field. I'm assuming there is another coach Saban feels very confident in that will be doing that job.

That’s a great plan when you aren’t playing from behind. Get behind by 10 points and where does this plan get you? In the loss column.
Probably correct since Alabama has never come back when trailing by 10 under Saban with a power run game and middle of the road passer.

That kind of worries me.
It a legitimate concern.
IMO he wasn’t operating at Jalen Hurts 2017 levels at A-Day from a read/recognition/accuracy perspective and his turnovers were something JH never had an issue with. We will not win a championship with an A-Day level year from him.
That said, I’m not going to freak out unless I see him play poorly against Texas, but I believe there is genuine reason to question whether he’s ready for the big stage.
There’s also reason to believe he could win a Heisman because he has the talent to do so.
He’s a huge ceiling, low floor guy and we’ll know where he’s at come 10 pm against Texas.

Did any of the eventual starters at QB for Bama (outside of Tua) absolutely light it up at A day?

I was at A-Day in 2010.
We returned practically everyone on offense from the 2009 championship team and they looked like absolute dogshit that afternoon.

They all over performed relative to how they looked at A-Day.
Doesn’t mean it’s a foregone conclusion everything has been fixed since then either.
Hopefully Jalen will show he’s ready for the big stage as well.

Hell Aday with Mac Jones wasn’t exceptional. I think we could have a good run.

So I just went back and watched every offensive snap from the Bama-A&M game again, and... Yikes. If it wasn't for Gibbs, we probably would've lost that game. I guess I blocked that game out of my mind so completely that I forgot how good of a game he had.
Here's the final numbers, for what they're worth:
First half
Possessions: 9
Punts: 3
Turnovers: 3 (2 fumbles by Milroe, 1 int by Milroe)
Field Goals: 1/1
RB carries: 13
QB designed runs: 4
QB Scrambles: 3
Complete passes: 6
Incomplete passes: 4
Sacks taken: 1
Points: 17
Second half
Possessions: 5
Punts: 1
Turnovers: 1 (Fumble by McClellan)
Field Goals: 0/2
RB carries: 20
QB designed runs: 3
QB Scrambles: 1
Complete passes: 6
Incomplete passes: 3
Sacks taken: 2
Points: 7
ETA: I got rushed and sort of had to abandon this, but I didn't want to delete it so I just posted it.
The point was to show that I think we got way more conservative in the second half, probably as a response to the turnovers by Milroe in the first. The result was fewer turnovers, but also worse offense. Gibbs was a difference-maker all game, but not even he could get us any red zone points after halftime. Though Milroe completed the same amount of passes in the 2nd half, most of them were behind the LOS and didn't account for much.

So given the new offensive coordinator, could this year's offense be better than last year's? Not better potential wise, but in actuality.

You don’t think Jalen Milroe hitting 65% of his passes with an improved turnover ratio and an SECCG win under his belt is a Heisman candidate?
I think his ceiling is Jalen Hurts at OU. That year he dropped a 70% / 5100 tot yards / 52 TD line under Lincoln Riley. If he does 85% of that and wins the SEC he will be in NYC.
Unfortunately his basement is Emory Jones at UF and benched by game 3.

It’s weird how you can watch that and think it’s disastrous. Take the turnovers away and it’s a blowout. The biggest takeaway from that game is Milroe needs ball security.

Who do we have on staff that makes you think we can get him to this ceiling you speak of?

And Reichard needs to hit his FGs. If he had done that, the game would have never been in doubt and the current angst would be cut in half.

Probably should've been at least 2 more interceptions by Milroe, passes hit the defense right in the hands but they didn't catch it. We were also very fortunate that they turned the ball over deep in their own territory late in the first half, resulting in the FG. Otherwise it could've been a 1-point game there at the end. It was a pretty awful game on offense, outside of Gibbs.
I'm not against Milroe being the guy; I blame most of the struggles on BoB not tailoring a gameplan to his skillset. That being said, I really hope Milroe has taken some giant strides in his game, and Rees is at least a decent OC.

Lmao I don’t think it works that way; the guy had 3 turnovers in one game and almost threw a second INT on a forced pass to the end zone for a grand total of 4 TOs in the game. Him turning the ball over in that game was no anomaly.
That said, I am excited to see what he brings to the table this year and hope he has figured it out as a passer.

Reichard missed one chip shot field goal and another makeable one. We won and that is all that matters.

This may come as a shock to all my haters on here, but I think our offense can, and eventually WILL be better than it was last year.
But only after Saban pulls the plug on this whole Milroe debacle.
