Received a lovely call today from my dear friend Eli Gold.
The voice of @AlabamaFTBL is healing from cancer and will return to the broadcast booth this fall. No one in the biz is better than Eli.

NCAA statement on the Tennessee recruiting violations that occurred under Pruitt.
LINK
Show causes for individuals ranging from 3 to 5 years. So, if they allow the last two years as time served, the earliest that Pruitt comes off of show cause would be next season? And the latest would be 3 more years?

Sounds like Pruitt should argue for 3 years with 2 already having been served. He’d still be allowed as an analyst for this season correct?

These coaches cooperated and negotiated these show-causes with the NCAA. And they still got 3-5 years. Wouldn't be surprised if Pruitt's is significantly longer.

I think you're right...when I first read it, I thought when it mentioned staffers that it included Pruitt...but from reading an article on ESPN, that appears not to be so. If that's what his staffers got from negotiating, I'd be surprised, pleasantly so, if Pruitt didn't get more than that...

I also wouldn't be surprised if he got more time, but he apparently did cooperate with the NCAA somewhat. He admitted his violations to the NCAA, according to what I've read. The NCAA can, and will, do whatever suits them, without regard to precedent or cooperation, though. We know that's true by Alabama's experience with them.

Our experience with NCCA’ s has been, you cooperate, you get killed. You defy they back off. Ask Awbarn.

That's been our experience. We had players buy textbooks for other students in 2007 and we get 5 years probation and Saban stripped of 2007 wins. UNC has what the accreditation committee SACS called "the worst academic fraud in the history of college education" and they got no penalty because UNC threatened a law suit - based on the fact that other students at UNC could take those courses too. Actually back in the early '90's case for which we were penalized based on Gene Jelks false testimony paid for by Auburn booster Corky Frost, Dr. Smith sued the NCAA for libel and won a million dollars because the NCAA erroneously put his name in the infractions list. I've forgotten his first name. We should have learned then.

That's true, but the NCAA can then hold that grudge against you. They give you harsher punishments later than are merited (like on the textbook case) to get back at you, if they're inclined to. There's not much winning when it comes to dealing with the NCAA.

Because the NCAA has no jurisdiction when there is no direct benefit for just athletes. Though anyone around UNC knew the majority of the students played foot ball and BBall but yet it was never questioned.

Sounds a lot like when the barn had a bunch of football players majoring in sociology in the mid 2000's and none of them actually attended class. SACS threatened to take away their accreditation when one of the instructors blew the whistle.

This ^
It involved all students and was an accreditation issue. If it had been classes specifically for athletes then NCAA would've had an argument

Curious why we didn’t make him our ILB coach.

Saban must really like what he's getting with Bala?

Losing Sal Sunseri to Colorado, returning on field to coach DTs.
Guess he hit his Saban tolerance again
Seriously though, hate they moved him off field.
