That parking lot was where Nixon landed in the presidential helicopters and made his way into the stadium after the game started.
Him arriving a few minutes late was a lot more dramatic as he walked in while the game was being played and being televised to the largest auidence in the history of college football.
I understand they had to change and update that stadium but seeing into the parking lot from tbe Stadium was somewhat cool and historical.

How odd would it have been to sit in the upper right corner section in 1979. That just seems like such an odd addition to make. I’m assuming more was going in next to it at that time with all the cranes in the background.

I do have to say that Kyle Field, if you don't have to sit in the upper decks, is one of the best stadiums in the SEC. But that ribbon board that goes around the place, can send someone into hypnotic convulsions.
