I wouldn’t call the 2013 IB luck. The DSOR that year was however. exactly, that was just a bad coaching decision by Saban.
First of all, luck is always part of the equation.
Second, DSOR, while Louis' catch was very lucky. However, no discussion of "luck" around that game would be complete without mentioning how lucky UGA was that there was not a replay camera on the other side of the field. Sorry, Dawg fans: Aaron Murray's knee was down.
Third, Iron Bowl, Auburn played the #1 team in the country to a tie for 59:59. That ain't luck. Had it gone to OT, I would have given Auburn at least a 60% chance of winning as they had the momentum and by far the better kicker.

I've said before and will say again, I have NEVER in my life seen a fanbase so frequently and so passionately bring up a supposed missed call in a game you WON. Also you can't irrefutably prove he was down either, any hinting at 100% undeniable proof is just speculation. What isn't speculation is that the hail mary shouldn't have even happened considering the raping of our DL on the pass:
but of course that isn't ever going to get called in that situation. The point is you can easily look at a call here or there and say it changed the outcome. But there is no debate that the end of that game was nothing but pure flat out luck. No way around it.
And I DO agree that the IB/kick 6 was NOT luck, I mean how can it be? It was a play that AU practiced and put specific personnel on the field for and executed to perfection. Improbable, unlikely, crazy, sure..but not lucky.

That game made me furious, we let off the gas and had to get lucky at the end. Exact same thing happened with FSU in the championship, we could’ve blown them out, but let off the gas and it cost us a national championship.

Saban had his big guys in there to keep Auburn from blocking it. Auburn put there speed guys in for running it back. You can see this in the replay with how slow Alabama is. This was just a great call by Gus and nothing else.

I've never seen a ball bounce 20 or more yards right darn beside the out of bounds line, and then 10 more yards out the back of the endzone. It was just bizarre.
I wonder how many times you could recreate that play and have that exact thing happen again? 1 in 100? 1 in 1000? It is one of the damnedest things I've ever seen.

As I said...Don’t let those other auburn guys fool you. The stop on Murray required a face mask that went uncalled, which means it was should have been 1st and goal on the 1.

Its not as good as the now removed pic from the AU paper, but this shows the grab and the pull.
Thanks. I didn't think there was any evidence of an actual facemark, but the link absolutely confirms my intuition.

I would say A&M 2012 was luckier. Starters missed a grand total of 1 game combined due to injury. (one starter missed one game due to injury)

You aren’t allowed to do what he did, but the ref was running for his life.

Ellis Johnson played prevent D with 12 min to go and a 20 point lead. That strategy worked in the 90s, which was Johnson's prime, but it will bite you on the butt today. Auburn was the much better team on both sides of the ball, but the coaches almost pissed it away.

And Aaron Murry was an absolute stud that last quarter as well.

He was one of those guys who had the ability to get hot and when he did he did not miss throws or miss finding open guys.

it's never fun to lose of course, but one of the worst things about losign that game is Murray's performance will be forgotten, whereas if we jsut hang on to win it's looked at as an all-time great performance in the history of SEC football. It truly was an all-timer of a performance that he carried us on his back in.

Yeah, I genuinely felt bad for the kid. He really put your team on his back. He was tougher and nails and deserved better than to see the way that game ended.

Yep - crazy how those things work out
