Him using the word develop is a subtle stab at AJ and his lack of player development

Stackhouse his very little head coach experience and none at the college level. One bball guru was talking about that a couple of weeks ago. He said taking an nba coach with no college experience almost never works. Hoiburg was the only one he could thing of that worked. He said college coaching is just much more difficult. They have to deal with School, grades, developing skills, speaking engagements, etc.

Awesome. Shack would probabky be a servicable PG if Kira doesn’t come back.

Has anyone gotten a response from Juwan Gary yet? Has Oats made it public when they will meet with him? Gotta keep him locked in as well.

I personally think lack of development during the off season was his biggest failure. Apparently they just didnt push the players to work hard during the off season. You learn to shoot by repetition. And not just lazy pickup games.

Sounds eerily reminiscent of the Avery hire: current NBA assistant, former G-league coach of the year, won the G league, ran an AAU team, no college experience. Good luck, ‘Dores, you’re going to need it.

Someone wrote on twitter Gary may have trouble qualifying. Id hate to lose him but of the 4 recruits, he is the 1 that would hurt the least if we lost him.IMO

Might've been shared already, but this made me tingly on the inside:

On Monday, the Crimson Tide men’s basketball team went through its first on-court workout with the new head coach, and during his first Hey Coach show, Oats said it was an eye-opening experience.
“Things were definitely a lot different,” Oats said at Baumhower’s Victory Grille. “The pace of play is nothing like any of them had been accustomed to. They were a little gassed and worn out. We’re not doing any conditioning, just the drills we’re running (laughs) at a little bit of a different pace than they’re used to doing. We were third in the country in offensive pace of play at Buffalo, we were ... first in transition points per game. We’re going to run that system. “We’ve athletes down here to run it, and we’ve just got to get the culture right to where they’re going hard every day in practice."

I haven't seen any quoted remarks from Juwan Gary yet, but here's some from Jaylen Forbes:
quote:
"I think it’s a pretty good hire. Looking at his history at Buffalo and it most definitely caught my attention. I can’t wait to get to working with him and start this new era at Bama."
Gary, Forbes and Shackleford have already signed. They can't just decommit and then sign elsewhere, unless Bama releases them from their NLI.
ETA: It seems to me that Gary would also view Oats as an exciting upgrade.

Which happens every time the coach they committed to is fired.

Pumped about Shackelford. He’s the main guy I didn’t want to lose from that recruiting class.

Reading all these quotes from Oats makes me really hate Bill Battle

Agreed. Our conditioning and fundamentals were so bad.
Marshall used Battle for his pay raise and extension.

I love it. When I coached, we never did any conditioning that was just running. It's a waste. All our conditioning came from the drills we did. That way they get into game shape and get skill training.

Pretty sure they're going to be doing plenty of conditioning work. He was just stating that they were not even in good enough shape to run the drills without being gassed.

Secretary: Mr. Battle, there’s an Avery Johnson on line 1 asking about the basketball job...
Battle: Hello, Mr. Johnson. You played and coached in the NBA? Good enough! How much you want to coach shooty-hoops to our boys?
Avery: I don’t know, Mr. Battle, I was just curious and interested in maybe interviewing for it.
Battle: Nonsense! You are obviously qualified for the job, let’s cut through the red tape and get this done! I don’t know shite about the sport and just want this off my plate. How’s $3 million a year sound?
Avery: Are you for real? I’ll take it!
Battle: Excellent! Now I can still make my tee time at the country club!
Avery: (WTF???)
