I was there. Dressed in the old Jackson Generals (AA Houston) jerseys. So much nostalgia. By far the best uniforms in baseball.

16 over 500. 6.5 over the Phillies.
The nats have been playing good ball lately. We might be talking about how many games we are ahead of them instead of the Phillies in the next couple weeks.

Acuna will be in the HR derby. It's leaking on Twitter.

Can’t win them all, but damn we give up a lot of runs.

AAA-J Minter is garbage.
8-5 Mets in the 8th.

Mood when you see AJ Minter in the game

If you haven't heard already the Mets really need this win.

so in real time, I was of the opinion that Newcomb needed to be taken out immediately after giving up the HR, HBP, and incredibly hard hit single down the 3B line. I thought he clearly didn't have it and I said as much during the game thread on the MSB.
Then he appeared to settle down after the failed sac bunt and the lineout to RF. He got 3 straight nasty curves over for strikes and looked more comfortable. I'm not sure why Snit decided to then take him out.
All that said, Newk deserves as much of the blame if not more than Minter. The hit that he gave up to surrender the lead was pretty weakly hit, and Markakis was playing so deep that he had no chance of getting it.
Oh well, 2 of 3 is fine.

Just checked out the standings (Braves are 50-35 and up 5.5 on the Phillies and 7 on the Nationals) and noticed a couple of things.
1- Braves have the best road record by far in the NL at 26-18. The home record of 24-17 isn't bad but the Braves performance on the road in the first half is what has separated them in the division. The Phillies are 17-23 on the road. Ouch.
2- The Dodgers are an unbelievable 34-9 at home. They are a decent 23-20 on the road but that home record is just insane. Haven't looked closely enough to see if their SOS at home has been much easier than their SOS on the road, but regardless they have been an absolute juggernaut at Chavez Ravine. I guess we saw that first hand when we got swept and outscored 23-7 out there early in the season.
Finally if you want to compare to last year after 85 games, the Braves are 1 game up on last years pace (they were 49-36 after 85 last year). And in the actual division standings last year after their 85th game they were 1.5 games up on the Phillies.

it only looks this good because of that last homestand. right before it started folks were bitching about how poorly the Braves play at home lol. Now it's fairly respectable.
But yeah, the Dodgers are absurd and while the Braves can definitely add some pieces to improve their chances, it might end up being a lost cause anyways
(don't interpret that as saying I don't want to add on to the roster. i am all in when it comes to going for it. i just don't think it'll make a difference in a potential NLCS).

Maybe, but it's baseball. The most stacked roster doesn't always win. I'm not saying mortgage the future entirely, but I'd be willing to give up more assets this year than I was last year.
I do kind of waiver on this because I feel like we need SO MUCH pitching help. It doesn't seem like we just need to find that one guy right now. It seems like we need to find 2-3 of those guys. With our pitching staff against the Dodgers it does kind of feel like we are just rolling the dice in the hopes that everyone just has a rare decent week at the same time.
