Same fricking way...it's nice seeing it all on TV,but I miss especially with basketball...EVERYBODY played on Wed. night for the during the week game....One game, maybe two..would be on the split JP, if it happened to be 2 games. It was easier to keep track of all the teams and where they were doing. this year isn't too bad, with everyone playing on either Tue or Wed, but it seemed like up until last year, the mid week games were some Tue, wed, Thur..just cluster
Yep - that's funny I was exactly the same. You'd get to be on Super Tuesday on ESPN every once in a while if you were having a good season or, more than likely, if you were playing Kentucky, and if you did it was a big arse deal.
I remember waking up on Thursday mornings and running down to look at the paper to see what happened the night before in the other SEC games. I mean it sounds like 1955 but it was like 1998 hahahaha.

You probably have similar tales living out of market from your team, but I vividly remember calling a 900 number multiple times and listening to Eli Gold over the house phone call games because PPV wasn't available in Tennessee and there wasn't another option.
I could pick up the night games on 870 AM from Memphis, but we went to most the SEC and bigger home games back then so I didn't have to do it that much for football, mainly just for the games like Idaho and the like. This was before you could even stream the radio feed online easily, so I would have to move around to different spots in my house throughout the game with my boom box

Still remember how excited we all were for ESPN2 because it meant 1-2 more games on TV a year.
I was so pissed at how long it took our area to get ESPN2 on cable. I swear it was like 1998 before it became available

I remember one random year some guy in Erwin (up in the mountains almost in North Carolina) decided to basically buy the rights to the Alabama football games on his local country station. Because they were so high we could get the games, but at a super low volume and only during the day before they had to turn down the power.
We were listening to some road game (Kentucky in 1997 I think), and it was like the 3rd quarter of a close game and all of a sudden the signal just totally dropped. My dad was like searching old alumni magazines for the closest bars and calling his UK friends for the nearest place to get a UK radio signal

Things were more interesting without technology.

just think, Rick Stansbury and Jackie Sherrill were employed at the same time by the same school for 12 years
I feel bad for their boosters. Imagine the convos at home “Sorry baby, we aren’t gonna make it to Turks & Caicos this year, Jackie thinks this RB can get us to 7-5, and he’s 80k short.”

Alright boys I gotta go search some grant agreements for some minutia - good talking with everyone, nice to get the grown ups in the room without the kids sometimes (I'm looking at you WillyT
