it really was, those were the days, all those teams were capable, it's now starting to get that feel again where something is a stake every time they play.

Knew a guy that grew up with Brady in McComb...yeah what you said is pretty accurate. I swear Brady could have changed his clothes and fit right in at a bowling alley and no one would notice him.

I remember in one of those years when he had a pretty inconsistent team and got mad all the time (might have been 2004), we all did the "BRADYS AN IDIOT" chant and he actually looked up at us and just started laughing.

Yes - it is finally back to the point where it feels like every game the last month or so of the season is against a NCAA lock team or a NCAA bubble team.

Those years in the early 2010s were just frickin brutal. Teams were bad, coaches were bad, players werent elite, fans were apathetic.

So much better now.

PROBABLY WITH HUNTER JOHNSON

Brady was fun as hell with all that stuff. Stansbury was the complete opposite. He was ALWAYS mad at everything when they came to Tuscaloosa.

It was obviously time for Brady to go at LSU, but I was glad for him that he went to Arkansas State and had nice success for 6-7 years before it ended.

the characters the SEC west had for football and basketball coaches from the mid 90s through the mid 00s were the best it's ever been and ever will be. I don't even know where to start. It was a shite show more times than not in both sports, but holy shite, add the Daves of JP Sports and how could you not be a fan. Maybe because everyone was mediocre, at best, most years made it so much more interesting that literally anything could happen in any given game.

Stansbury, wonder what he's doing now.

It's pretty awesome having Brady as our radio/color guy now. He's on good terms with everybody and is just enjoying being back in the fold with the team/program.

I openly complain to everyone around me at tailgates about how I'd trade all the SEC money and power and notoriety and all that shite to go back to the 1990s with 12 teams and Jefferson Pilot and everybody being excited about going 9-3 and beating their rivals. It was just a lot more fun then (our success now notwithstanding). Everything didn't revolve around national stories or national titles or other leagues, everything was regional.

The only thing currently that I'd really hate to give up is just having all the games in all the sports on TV somewhere.

Coach at Western Kentucky. He was the top assistant at A&M for a few years and basically brought in all of Kennedy's NBA players in the last half decade.

agree with all of this. I feel like every year, some shitty team beat a good team so everyone always could talk shite on some level. No one else knew what the rednecks down here were doing outside of Tennessee and Florida, so we kind of did our own thing. There was just a lot more personality back then. Wow, I'm not even quite 35 and am already having "back in my day" nostalgia conversations.

But yeah, listening to several games a year on the radio kind of sucked

Stans is now smuggling 7’1 freak show African big men to Western Kentucky. Dude is the king of cheating on an insane level only to win absolutely nothing. Dudes made an art form out of failing with a high payroll lol.

I know right? But it's so true.

I mean I used to LOVE going to Tuscaloosa for games against LSU and any time we'd play a random east team we didn't see much (Georgia, Florida). I mean I would be EXCITED - seeing their fans, their band, all that stuff. You just didn't experience other teams, even ones in your own league. It was awesome. Everybody had their own thing and was different.

1990s college football was the end of mom and pop stores and 2019 College Football is basically Costco.

It really sucks, we didn't need to add A&M or Mizzou...could still do the tv network and split the money by 2 less schools.

Same fricking way...it's nice seeing it all on TV,but I miss especially with basketball...EVERYBODY played on Wed. night for the during the week game....One game, maybe two..would be on the split JP, if it happened to be 2 games. It was easier to keep track of all the teams and where they were doing. this year isn't too bad, with everyone playing on either Tue or Wed, but it seemed like up until last year, the mid week games were some Tue, wed, Thur..just cluster

You probably have similar tales living out of market from your team, but I vividly remember calling a 900 number multiple times and listening to Eli Gold over the house phone call games because PPV wasn't available in Tennessee and there wasn't another option.

I listened to the glorious Louisiana Tech loss in 1999 on speaker phone in my dad's office.

Still remember how excited we all were for ESPN2 because it meant 1-2 more games on TV a year.
