I agree Bear.. I know his dad is close with the barn staff very close. I’m sure more will come out and he really loves their coaches. You never know with kids that are 17. I don’t see us doing that and I know the Barn is still pissed about Cohen.

This one was on us it seems.. the drama I was talking about is JJ thought he could commit yesterday and even called Auburn. He was coming to us.. last night we asked him to push back his commitment. I don’t know if it was a misunderstanding between him and the staff, or the staff and Saban. But it didn’t look good and pissed off a few people. It looks like we gave full court press, then when he informed Auburn he might flip we pulled back. I don’t know what all happened and I’m sure it’s a misunderstanding. It didn’t sit well because it made him look bad to the barn staff and know he is going there. I’m sure it will blow over or get smoothed over but it was talked about this morning. I just don’t understand why we wouldn’t take his commit right now??

I think we still haven't really adjusted to the ESD aspect of recruiting. I'm not sure we ever will. Saban has always liked to slow play kids who aren't plan A, but with most kids signing in December now instead of February it's a lot more difficult to work those situations out to your own benefit. Kids want to sign early because they are afraid they won't have a spot in February. Especially the kids who aren't 5*, top 25 overall recruits that every program will make room for if necessary.

You would think Saban would've learned from the 2018 class when he slow-played a lot of kids that resulted in the absolute shite show that was the February 2018 signing day.

Shula talked to him - he's really working on passing that Addition 101 class this time around.

Could be a nice short down back.

He's gonna qualify this time for sure. 4th times the charm. Also he's got to be like 35 by now. Surely he has learned something.

Could it be something as simple as he had a commitable offer yesterday but the coaches got word of someone coming on board late that made numbers a problem and they had to choose between JJ and Recruit X so they flip flopped on him?

He told Gus and Friends that he was going to de-commit, and he claims they got pissy with him and then put out reports that they had pulled his offer when he committed to us. Seems like a bold strategy to take with a player from a powerhouse HS program that is consistently producing P-5 caliber players right in your own backyard.

The BoneR, round 2

quote:

Tough situation for Bama with Washington and Pegues.

Alabama believes they are in it with Washington. Doesn't mean he will pick them, but they have a shot. The chance of him jumping on board with two tight ends signed would have been very slim.

Alabama decides to wait to see what happens with Washington instead. If Washington picks another school then Alabama will see who is still out there including Michael Henderson (Oklahoma commitment) who will visit in late January and possibly former Arkansas commitment Brandon Frazier.
