Some Smoke out of MS on JJ.. tide trying to claw back in it this morning. Must mean we don’t feel very confident with Washington.. but JJ has the green light to commit and he is thinking it over again.

Tim mentioned it.. and I texted to follow up with one of his coaches.. said is “JJ going to the plains”
I got a response that said “ That was the plan, but Bama made it interesting”

What would Jase mean for Roydell and Edwards, if anything?

1. Sanders
2. B-Rob
3. K-Rob
4. Ford
5. Jase
6. Roydell
7. Edwards

Seven seems like a lot of scholarship RBs.

I just don't see Ford as a big time SEC running back

I agree, and don't forget that Townsend is there now (at least for the time being). I think that's a lot, especially with the idea that Story could settle in there as well (although it looks like DB will be an option also). I would add that I would be surprised if there weren't some movement in our RB room this offseason. Just too crowded if you end up bringing in all three of these guys.

Coaches absolutely love Townsend - I'm curious where he ends up next year.

If he does, we gotta put the full-court press on Jarrett, especially if Smith and Ruggs declare for the draft.

The main issue at WR is that these four guys have dominated all the snaps over the past two years so we've had basically no chance to see any younger guys. Metchie was #5 this year and caught what, two balls? Those guys weren't getting in the game until we had stopped passing the ball.

We need to see some guys step up this spring. What can Bolden, Williams, Townsend, and Shavers bring to the table? In the case of Shavers, it's now or never it seems like.

Which is why getting Arian Smith or Rakim Jarrett is vital if Ruggs and Smith declare for the draft. If we strike out on both and lose the latter 2 to the draft, I expect us to target the transfer portal.

Pro-Player Comparisons for the Top 10 2020 Recruits

quote:

6. QB Bryce Young

Height/Weight: 5'11", 183 lbs

School: Mater Dei HS (Santa Ana, CA)

Status: Committed to Alabama

Pro Comparison: Kyler Murray

The comparisons to Russell Wilson are inevitable for an undersized, dual-threat quarterback.

However, it's easy to forget that Wilson was just a 3-star recruit who ranked as the No. 1,102 player in the 2007 recruiting class.

On the other hand, the similarly undersized Kyler Murray was a 5-star recruit and one of the most dynamic players in high school football history.

Young belongs in that conversation as well after starring at powerhouse Mater Dei High School where he threw for 4,528 yards and 58 touchdowns during his senior season while adding another 357 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.

Strong pocket presence and a high football IQ should help Young make a smooth transition to the collegiate level, where he will be facing lofty expectations as the presumptive future signal-caller for the Crimson Tide.

If Smith came back (which I think most seem to be thinking he is).........

2020
WR-H : Waddle (JR), Bolden (R-SO), Jones-Bell (FR)
WR-Z : D. Smith (SR), X. Williams (SO)
WR-X : J. Metchie (SO), T. Shavers (R-JR)

2021
WR-H : Bolden (R-JR), Jones-Bell (SO)
WR-Z : X. Williams (JR), Holden/Baker (SO)
WR-X : J. Metchie (JR), Shavers (R-SR)

Rakim Jarrett is very likely to flip to Bama.

ETA: Per 2 reliable well-connected sources.

He definitely seems to be in play but very likely seems a bit strong.

Would be huge, though.

Anyone currently committed to a school that doesn't sign this week should be taken off their commitment list.

They either don't have the green light to sign or they aren't fully committed to the school.

That's a good point, hadn't really thought about it that way before.

Or there's potentially qualifying issues like grades.
