Will we even make a bowl game next year

so he is going to leave SC where his son is a rising senior to come to AU? Your beat writers are DA's who hear a little rumor and run with it. Your HC is a lame duck and no coach in their right mind is coming to AU. AU will have to promote from within

Bobby Bentley was a very successful high school coach in SC, and he's been pretty strong as RB coach at Carolina. He wants to call plays, and I guess he thinks a year at Auburn before Gus gets fired is worth a shot. Bobby was a non-field analyst for Gus, which is why Jake went to Opelika HS; but the family itself is full of well-established Carolinians.
Jake isn't coming with him, if Bobby were to come. It's a high-risk hire for everyone involved.

It is what it is at this point. Absolutely nothing about this situation will surprise me.

What if Jake goes pro after the bowl game?

Gus has been the OC for years. It dont really matter who he hires.

Bobby leaving to go back to Auburn is risky, because it's likely that Malzahn won't be there next year. I'd wager a guess that if Bobby hangs out for another year or two at SC that he'll be offensive coordinator in his home state under a pretty stable staff. McClendon will be a head coach within two years.
If Jake thinks he's an NFL QB right now, he's getting awful advice.

Oh, I don't disagree. But when considering hypotheticals, I often take arguments to their most farthest possibility to see if they make sense in that context. This was one of those scenarios.
That being said, I don't put tons of stock in this one. I might happen, but timing is everything. As been pointed out, why would BB leave the sideline for JB's Sr season? In my mind, given his ties to the high school coaches in SC BB makes much more sense in that state than Alabama. And why leave for only 1 year? Again, timing.
Now, this may still happen, but for lots of reasons I'm not sure it makes sense.

Lonnie - I think Bobby Bentley to AU as OC makes sense for several reasons, and most have to do with Gus being on the hot seat.
Potential hires for OC can see Gus may only have one year unless he wins big next year. That takes out all good OC’s who have better options working for coaches in a more stable situation. Even the guarantee of a 3 year contract would keep these OC’s from taking the job because getting canned after one year is not a resume builder and it’s hard on the family.
So now Gus is looking for hires that would consider the job in spite of the risk. These are guys who would listen because it would mean a huge pay increase and the opportunity to add “OC at a P5” school on their resume.
So because Gus has to look for a guy like the above, Gus is also taking a risk because these candidates won’t come with a proven track record. Gus will lean towards a guy he has some comfort with.
I think there is only one guy that makes sense. This guy has a proven track record of running high powered offenses at the high school level and winning numerous state championships. He has previously worked with Gus at Auburn. He is currently only making about $350,000 as a rb coach. He currently coaches in the SEC so he knows the landscape and demands of the conference.
I think Bobby Bentley ticks a lot of boxes for Gus, given that Gus is not in a position to pull a proven OC from another school. I also think BB would take the job for the raise and the title.
I do think AU has to give BB at least a multi year guarantee. I don’t think he takes the job for just one year of pay. So if what some are saying is true, that AU is not allowing Gus to offer multi year deals to assistants, then AU is definitively trying to sabatoge Gus so he’ll quit.

not sure anyone should do this unless they had a 3 year contract. Their current DC has a new 3 year deal making over 2 mil per

Solid take. It'll be interesting to see how much or little Gus gives him autonomy. He is going to be hamstrung enough as it is with a absolutely terrible offensive line... maybe the worst in P5, particularly at the tackle position.

Seems it doesn’t matter what type of offense he runs, it just going to be more of the Gus bus.

So it looks as if this is really happening.
