Let me start out by saying I love the South Carolina Gamecocks. My father is an alumnus and I have been making trips to Columbia for 33 years to see the Gamecocks play. I spent 8 wonderful years in Columbia obtaining my undergraduate and law degrees. If you have ever met me, you will know within minutes which sports team is my passion.
However, year after year of hopes, dreams and expectations being crushed has destroyed the joy I get in watching the Gamecocks. I was sick with nerves before the game and have been in a foul mood since.
I loved the 5 year streak against Clemson and our 3 straight 11 win seasons, but I feel it's made us delusional about where we are as a program and what our expectations should be. It was more fun being a Gamecock in 1998 and 1999 than it is now. Anybody else feel this way?

I didn’t even get mad. It’s expected.
It’s just a “well frick here we go again” and then I go about my day. I used to get really mad. Just don’t have it in me anymore.

Well I just hit a trash panda in the head with a half full beer sitting in my back yard

Why did you waste a half beer?

I say I’m going to change and not base my fall weekends around the Gamecocks, but I know I’ll be watching them next week. Expecting a better outcome then.....might need to make plans the Saturday after Thanksgiving though...

Guys keep in mind UGA is a really talented team and will be the best you fave until clempsux...we could stumble at LSU OR AU....this season is young...hang in there.
Good game

We have a ton of talent and about damn won it all last year. UGA is a top 5 team.
If you can beat A&M - who looked pretty damn good tonight - SC could very well run the table on the rest of the schedule.

You are correct. The size and speed of Georgia is elite. I wished we would have had a better outing. I think we are a much better team that what we witnessed but we are not in the same league as Georgia. Good luck the rest of the way.

quote:I think clemsux rise to the top has done this to our fan base. We had a great 3 year run and instead of us building on it, clemsux built on their 5 straight year losses. It's horrible that the situation was not reversed. Will it flip ? I have no clue but it doesn't look promising. We have the right person (Muschamp) but he is trying to climb Mt. Everest and our two biggest rivals are already at the top. It's a daunting task at best.

This. As soon as Dowdle dropped the pass, I knew it wasn't our day. Kids were too overhyped, and couldn't handle the moment. I spent much of the afternoon playing with my kids when we were at my parents' house.
The ceiling here is 8-4. It just is. Embrace it, be OK with it, and anticipate annual losses to UGA, aTm, UK-or-UF , and Clemson. But don't make this silly game more than it is.

I never let games like this ruin my weekend. There was a reason Georgia was #3 and we barely made the top 25. I know some "experts" were hyping this game and pushing the narrative of an upset. I was picking the Gamecocks with my heart but my head said Georgia. They are elite. Still think we have a good team and will bounce back. There is one more game that I will put in the loss column. Just too much talent at Clemson. The rest are up for grabs.

I didn't really expect to win, but I didn't expect to get whooped that bad either.

Going into this game, I had a lot of questions about my Dawgs. First week versus Austin Peay we didn’t stop the run that well and on offensive side, there was no explosion. Apparently Kirby & Staff really worked on both before the USCjr game.
I thought Cocks would be able to run against our defense- I was wrong and I underestimated Dawgs run defense and overestimated SCar rushing game - the pundits said you guys could run the ball - what happened? poor performance or overrated run game?

Maybe the right person for right now, but I don't see him last here 5 more years.

Given Boom's work ethic, his recruiting prowess, his family and his attachment to this University, his competitive nature and his willingness to do what it takes and even make corrections when necessary ... I'd be willing to make a bet that he'll be here for as long as he wants to be here before all is said and done - definitely more than five years.
We're making waaaaaay too much out of this one loss to what is likely to be this year's eventually national champion imho.

I use to be so excited for the games I couldn't sleep the night before. Now it doesn't ruin my day if we lose. Maybe because of age or maybe just year after year of expectations never living up to the hype but it's not the same for me anymore either.
I use to think the only way we would ever win a title or be worth a crap was if Steve Spurrier was our coach. Well it happened and I think those three straight years of 11-2 is as good as we can get here. We blew our chances at the East and let Mizzou get in there twice. Now UGA and Clemson are power houses and less than a 150 miles away. They have the recruits locked down.
Guess we can just hope from time to time to hopefully be in the SEC East race but in all likelihood we are just and Outback bowl team most years
