If Auburn had Peterson and UW had Malzahn,

would there be any doubt who wins this game Saturday? Is anyone worried about the roster of UW? It's just the coaching. The $7 million coach needs to take the next step this year.

welp, Malzahn has been to three NY6 bowl games (incl a Natty appearance) in 5 years and is 2-3 against the benchmark HC in college football. I'd say he's accomplished enough to hold his own against anyone at this point.
The real matchup, anyways, is Steele v. Peterson. And I think Steele will have some tricks up his sleeve.

What facts are you building your theory on? Peterson has lost every high profile game while coaching at UW. Hoover plays a stronger regular season schedule.

Then you would be melting that Peterson doesn't recruit well enough to win a NC. We could steal Saban and you would bitch that he doesn't handle QB's and kickers well.

You're underselling Gus.
That said, I don't necessarily think you're wrong that Peterson is the better coach, but Gus has won some huge games and has shown he's capable of coaching on the highest level. He's shown this to a far greater extent than Peterson, even if we think Peterson is more promising overall.
Big year for Gus, IMO. It's also a hard year, so we have to grade him on a curve. If we genuinely compete for the SEC (best we can considering the schedule) and have a consistent identity with no LSU/Clemson style debacles, I might be comfortable saying Gus has turned a corner.

I would as well. It's not losing a game. It's when he looks totally clueless in the loss. And in last year's case, shitting the bed against an inferior opponent (LSU)

I would much rather have Malzahn. He has proven he can coach offense with the best of them and can whip the big boys asses. He can also recruit his arse off.
But yea, let's get the Left Coast turd who has never won anything....
the whole Chris Petersen is an amazing coach thing just stems from his time at Boise when he beat OU. He has lost 6 games twice while at UW.

He has won more than Malzahn

UW had 9 seasons with 6+ losses in the 11 previous years, that includes an 0-12 year and 3 seasons of 8+ Ls
Washington hasn't been consistently relevant since Don James Was at the helm in the 80s

what like the Pac 12? Have they won the SEC, gone to the National Championship, beaten two #1's the same year, or played 150 miles from the greatest coach in CFB history and still done extremely well?

He has won more than Malzahn
GM - 67.2% win percentage overall, 62.5% in conference
CP - 68.5% win percentage overall, 63.9% in conference
Gus is basically one butt fumble away from having a higher percentage in both categories.

Malzahn worries me because when we lose we lay a egg, we seem to never lose a hard fought close game. We just come out flat a couple of games a year, last year we were flat against Clemson, Mercer, SECCG, UCF, and 2nd half LSU game. On paper we should handle UW but when you factor in Gus and the dome I have no idea how this game will end up.

We can talk about how great the SEC all we want
Playing in the SEC doesn't mean shite when you get your arse kicked by ranked OOC opponents. We are 1-6 against OOC opponents who finished the season ranked under Malzahn
Chris Petersen regularly beats ranked teams at shite programs like Boise/UW. Gus can't even win ranked games at Auburn
I like Gus but get out of here with this shite. You are beyond moronic with this take

He also beat a really good 2011 thUGA team that went 7-1 in the SEC that year, and has more undefeated seasons than any other coach in the country. I don't care where he coached at. That's impressive.

more moronic than this stupid fricking thread? Nope.
Gus rolls, Petersen licks his wounds again

Any take that has Chris Petersen as a subpar/overrated coach that hasn't won anything is an easy front-runner for stupidest post of the year

2006: #11 Oklahoma (Fiesta), #21 Oregon State
2008: #10 @Oregon
2009: #11 Oregon, #6 TCU (Fiesta)
2010: #16 VA Tech (Landover, MD)
2011: #19 UGa (Atlanta)
Not bad for a program that had only competed at the FBS level for a decade when he took over. And only two of those victories came on their home (blue) turf. Can't say much bad about a guy who beat UGa in Atlanta with WAC talent (AU lost to the Leghumpers by 38 points later that season).

To put Petersen's 7 ranked wins at Boise into context. Malzahn only has 10 wins over final ranked teams during his entire Auburn tenure.
That can't be right, because Chris Petersen hasn't won anything. How could he at a sh*t non P5 program with WAC talent ball park the ranked wins as Gustavo?
