Only T-rant is wildly impressed about “LSU front seven,” which is this year’s version of “LSU has 8-first round NFL draft picks, lock.”
Link? But yes, LSU has 2 first round locks in Greedy Williams and Devin White.

The team has a suspect or little quality depth on down line that has proven themselves, and even this year’s projected starters were abused last year by any team with muscle...
We return 6 of our front 7, and Fehoko was better than last year's starter.

LSU MAY develop a good defense, even without depth at LB, DL, and CB. But to declare them one of “SEC top 3” over veteran units and high talent, deep units like Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, State, etc., is just Tr hype.
Georgia returns 4 starters on defense.

No injury caused your offensive line to get destroyed. Our staff had amazing halftime adjustments vs baker mayfield. I wish we had 4 q’s vs hurts

Our front 7 is loaded with talent and more experience now in depth, talking Fehoko, Alexander, Lawrence backed up by guys like Logan, Shelvin, Farrell. Not a single true freshman in that group up front. The biggest difference is dealing with Fehoko and Alexander up front vs. Gilmore and LaCouture from last season, guys who are NFL quality vs. guys who were not.
Then at LB Chaisson, Phillips, White and Thornton backed up by Moore, Taylor, Queen and Divinity. Again, not a single true freshman in that group and Moore being the only newcomer as a JUCO.
Front 7 should be very good, the only questions really are at safety opposite Delpit, but there's a ton of talent there, and then CB opposite Greedy.

Watch the first vs the second. OL did play much different (poor both times). The difference was Johnson and UGA stopped the bubble screens. Not really amazing adjustments, since AU killed both UGA and Bama with those plays, that was the focus.

But but but..Jacknola said!!!
It will be interesting to watch Battle & Monroe duke it out for the opposite safety spot from Delpit.
I think they like Battle's knowledge of our defense and making sure people are in the right spot. Monroe's pass coverage needs work but he's a hit stick waiting to happen.
I think we'll see Kary Vincent start out as the opposite CB from Greedy - I'm hoping Kelvin Joseph can log meaningful minutes as the season goes on.
But Jacknola is right, we are fricked.

Agree. Johnson had some holes and open space in game 1, and your qb had plenty of time. That all changed in game 2.

Thanks for the link. Confirms what I said. We didn’t set the edge on that first run and we didn’t even cover him out of the backfield. That all changed in game 2.

You are right about the edge, but it was about speed not the OL. Johnson's yards were mainly YAC. Again, Stidham was pressured and the quick screens slowed that down. The threat of Johnson running also affected UGAs rush. Even after the dominate win, people were concerned about AU OL PLAY. that is why Hand is not at AU.

Hilarious. He was essentially untouched on those 2 plays. He would have gained the same yards on both of those first 2 plays if we played them the same way in game 2. Same with that 55 yard td catch in the 4th q.

When was the last year Bama did not lead the SEC in total defense or scoring defense? I am sure that since 2008 they have been number 1 more times than not. That does not mean anything for this year other than past performance is the best indication of future performance.
In 2014 Alabama was 3rd in Total Defense and 3rd in Scoring Defense. Other than that Bama has been #1 in the SEC every year in both categories since 2008, except for 2008 itself when Bama was #2 in Scoring Defense behind Florida.

Alabama didn't even gain 300 combined yards against LSU last year.
11-24 passing for 183 yards, and averaged 3.2 ypr on 36 attempts.

Oh looky here.... a list of names PROVING LSU is going to have an amazing defense. Why everyone knows that Boudreaux, Thibidoux, Alfonso, Larry, Moe, and Curly, backed up by Huey, Dewey, and Lewey, are going to be unstoppable. Uhhhh ... who?
Of course exactly one front 7 player from LSU was picked on the preseason all/SEC teams, but what do those idiots know ... they all hate LSU. Of course the players that couldn’t start last year will all be better this year than the players they couldn’t beat out last year, who got pushed around last year. And just look at all those names of LBs...most of whom were recruited as DEs, none (except White) of whom have proven to be first class SEC quality yet, much less the 6-7 quality LBs you need to run a season/game long 3-4.
But what is particularly laughable is the way the wittle tiggers react to a simple caution. Just saying “whoa” is akin to blasphemy about something that as been repeated so often on Tr that it MUST be true. Uhhh... no one has said anyone was bad...I said they were unlikely to be as good as Ala, Aub, State, and Ga. and they are unproven...and the college football commentators are not particularly impressed, and there is a reason prognosticators are calling LSU at 7-5 or so. It is hard for me to envision a top three defense on a 7-5 team...but perhaps I lack imagination.
But just go ahead and get your bung hole all red and sore...and pretend no one was saying 8-first round draft picks, etc. last year. Maybe I’ll be surprised at how good the LSU defense will be this year. Right now I’m looking at game tapes of the D in the State and Troy games, especially the play of the front seven. Perhaps I’ll have an epiphany.

Check the following time marks:
1:44
2:29
3:31
3:55
4:17
They will show you it was all outside speed that broke UGAs back. The one play where Stidham had time to throw without pressure, he did complete for a TD. Otherwise the OL was average at best.

Maybe look at the Bama game tape where our D gave up less yards than yalls
Posted on 7/6/18 at 3:24 pm to Irons Puppet
What’s interesting about that highlight tape is that there isn’t a lot of kerryon in it. He is way down the list of reasons why auburn killed us in game 1 and we killed auburn in game 2. Your defense, screens to the outside mixed with terrible tackling, and our special teams are much higher.
