Another big thing Powell said the LSU staff has hit hard on is staying home, and not just close to his family, but also at home with a program that is coming off a New Year’s Six bowl win as they enter the 2019 season carrying lofty expectations and a high ranking out of the gate.

“Ishmael is a homebody,” Powell said, circling proximity as a key factor in Sopsher’s recruitment. “Driving here and going there, all these different places, that’s not Ishmael. When he went to Hawaii for the All-Star game, I talked to him and he said ‘Coach, I’m ready to come home’.

“Coach Orgeron is selling him that. Also, too, it’s a special class in 2019 they are putting together with Kardell Thomas and Derek Stingley and Trey Palmer and Peter Parrish and some of the other guys that LSU has already signed or have committed. Ishmael sees that and the potential that will be there for LSU. Coach Orgeron has done a fantastic job with it.”

What does Powell expect once Sopsher and Lee take the podium to announce their picks in less than two weeks? “It’s going to be phenomenal,” he said. “A bunch of people in our community and friends and family at our school will be here. ESPN is coming to shoot it live. It’s going to be crazy.”
