What is the knock on D. Lee? Too slow to play safety or WR? Not physical enough for LB?

I think he just doesn't have a true position.

Winners, awards, top storylines from the Early Signing Period

quote:

The first day of the 2018 Early Signing Period for the 2019 football recruiting cycle has largely concluded. 247Sports earlier presented a conference-by-conference breakdown of superlatives to conclude Wednesday’s action, but now it's time to look at things from a national scope, name the big winners, and unpack some odds and ends.

Unless noted otherwise, all player rankings listed are from the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. That includes the 247Sports Composite team recruiting rankings.

WHO WON THE DAY?

quote:

Alabama ... Only the Crimson Tide can see a five-star in their class flip and still be considered a clear winner. But those are the recruiting efforts were used to seeing out of Tuscaloosa as Nick Saban and his staff work to start a new streak at the top of the 247Sports Recruiting Rankings after Georgia snapped their seven-year run in the 2018 cycle.

Alabama won what seemed to be an all-out war for 247Sports’ top-ranked running back Trey Sanders, who looked Georgia-bound when the day started. The Crimson Tide secured signatures from two others who entered the day as wild cards, with five-star offensive tackle Evan Neal and Top247 safety Jordan Battle, who flipped from Ohio State.

This Crimson Tide’s class now has 22 commits, including Top247 defensive lineman Justin Eboigbe who stayed true to his word and signed with Alabama despite entertaining Tennessee for several months.

Yeah, ILB seems like his natural position, but he hasn't played it, so he'd be a project there.

BEST CLASS ... Alabama entered the day with the nation’s No. 1 class per the 247Sports Composite team rankings and still maintains a rather sizable lead for the top spot. The Tide had a big day, adding five-star running back Trey Sanders and Top 100 offensive tackle Evan Neal. Teammates at IMG Academy, Sanders and Neal were previously committed to Alabama earlier in their recruitments. The day started out with five-star safety Dax Hill pulling the rare backflip to Michigan after being an Alabama pledge for a matter of weeks. The Tide answered with a flip of their own, pulling to 100 safety Jordan Battle away from Ohio State. Sanders, Neal and Battle — all Florida prospects — join a Crimson Tide class that is co-headlined by five-star defensive lineman Antonio Alfano. Alabama’s class sits at 23 signees with three additional unsigned commitments.

REMAINING STORYLINES

Tennessee has plenty of meat on the bone and room to move up with in-state four-star running back Eric Gray set to announce on Thursday. The Vols are also surging in the Crystal Ball of top 100 athlete Quavaris Crouch who will make his commitment at the All-American Bowl on January 5th. They also lead in the Crystal Ball of 247Sports Composite five-star offensive tackle Darnell Wright who is set to sign in February. Jeremy Pruitt and Tennessee could approach a top ten class should they hit the trifecta.

247Sports Composite top 100 defensive back Tyrique Stevenson was set to sign on Wednesday and hold his announcement until January 5 at the All-American Bowl but has pushed his decision date back to Friday. Georgia and Miami are battling it out for the Homestead (Fla.) Miami Southridge standout. As of Wednesday, the Bulldogs hold 71-29 edge over Miami in Stevenson’s Crystal Ball.

COMMENTS
Four-star offensive lineman William Putnam is another set to announce his commitment on Thursday, choosing between Auburn, Clemson and Florida State. The Seminoles lead in Putnam’s Crystal ball with 71% of the picks while Auburn and Clemson each hold 12%.

Several top prospects from the state of Mississippi remain unsigned including 247Sports Composite four-star prospects Jerrion Ealy, Nathan Pickering, Byron Jones, Charles Moore and Jonathan Mingo. If you’re looking for recruiting drama down the stretch, the Magnolia State may be a good place to start.

Need to keep Byron Young in the fold. Now that Eboigbe has signed we can really go in on Nathan Pickering too without pissing anyone off.

Using 247 composite for the overall and each team page for who is signed. You are certainly right that 247 may have not updated who has signed because they were behind yesterday. I'll do it again next week after Christmas to see how the numbers shake out.

The Farrell Awards: Reviewing the Early Signing Period

quote:

The Farrell Awards are always popular - or unpopular, depending on which team and prospects you like - and are a must after Signing Day. So, while wearing my best tux, here is the hardware from the Early Signing Period.

Farrell can eat a dick, but I'm still posting these.

BIGGEST WINNER

Alabama gets the slight nod over Georgia this time around after the Dawgs dominated last year. The Tide flipped Jordan Battle from Ohio State and landed IMG teammates Trey Sanders and Evan Neal, both five-star prospects. The Tide remained No. 1 in the country while Georgia pushed up to No. 2 thanks in no small part to the commitments of four-star qurarterback Dwan Mathis, also a flip from Ohio State, and linebacker Nakobe Dean.

COCKY CONFIDENCE

Running back Trey Sanders, the No. 2 prospect in the Rivals100, claimed he will be in New York City next year at the Heisman Trophy ceremony. That's pretty heady stuff for a high school kid. Sanders certainly doesn’t lack for confidence.
