Bama3174, any insights on who is likely to transfer to make room in regards to the grad transfers/jucos?
Redshirt seniors who might grad transfer out or just graduate and move on: Ronnie Clark, Derek Kief, Josh Casher.

This is not a done deal obviously, but we all know Wiltfong is pretty solid. I know he is from NC but that seems like an odd match to me. For some reason I just don't picture him there. Maybe he likes what he sees from Venebles.

Clark and Kief make sense. Casher was just selected to the SEC football leadership council, so he seems like someone who is staying unless they meet once a year which is possible. I believe with the addition of Minishaw and the expectation of adding 2 on the DL (the juco kid who just got an offer and someone else) we will need 3. If Clark and Kief turnout to be accurate, I'm really interested to see who the 3rd expected departure will be, if it turns out not to be Casher. Of course I might just be assuming to much with the 2 on dline.

A Butch, Bert, Rich-Rod shadow staff would be hilarious. So many different types of appetites between those three.

Rumor of a couple DBs (surprisingly). I would guess (based on no knowledge, just common sense) that maybe an OL or two. Usual attrition.

I'm guessing Clark, Kief, Knott and McMillon will transfer out.

Anyone hear anything about Elliot Baker? Doesn't look like he will play much this year, might transfer too.

In this morning's BOL Recruiting Chat, someone asked which RB Bama is more likely to get, Crouch or Sanders. Hank South said Crouch.

Eta: At about 1 pm, Hank pumped the breaks, saying he'd just spoken with some people and "didn't get a great Bama vibe for Crouch."

5-star WR Frank Ladson also got a couple CB picks to Clemson; one is from Wiltfong.

Hasn't Nigel Knott been rumored as a possibility?

I think Bama3714 has mentioned Knott might transfer. I think Baker redshirted and still has 2 years of elligibility. But I don't think he can grad transfer. If not, he'd have to sit out the 2018 season unless he transfers to an FCS school. I don't know enough about McMillon to comment, other than to say we're not all that deep at ILB.

Yeah, but some rumors about one who actually has some pretty good ability (Mayden) that would likely be a big contributor this year. Hopefully that isn't true.

Oops. I forgot about Casher getting selected.

If we get the JUCO NT we'll have 9 scholarship DL (3-deep). And maybe 270-lb TE Kedrick James and/or an OL player will move to DL.

With so many great 2019 prospects we're in the mix to get, I don't think Bama wants to use more than 2 Initial Counter spots on transfers.

We had 3 unsused IC spots from 2018. Minshew will use 1, and the Juco (or a grad transfer) DL will use 1. The grad transfer kicker is a PWO.

So, I think Bama may opt just go with adding only those 3 transfers. If so, that'll leave us 1 unused 2018 IC spot (which can be used to backount 1 2019 EE) plus our 25 2019 IC spots.

Sounds like there's a very good chance we'll be adding DT/NG Tevita Musika, from San Mateo Junior College, to the 2018 class. He was a 1st team AA and would likely enroll in the Summer if we offer (as expected). Looks good on film. No idea why he hasn't signed yet. 6'2" 330.

He doesn't have a 247 profile and it appears his first name is David. He did have 6 sacks last year.

I can get on board with all of that with one exception. I feel if Sterling Johnson wants to come aboard he almost has to be a take right? That is with the caveat of if we are even recruiting him to begin with.

I will hate it if Knott transfers. I know it hasn't went according to plan for him but I loved him during his recruiting cycle.

Alabama kicker will likely commit to Tide, Tigers or Bulldogs soon

quote:

Will Reichard may have taken his last unofficial visit before he makes his decision.

The talented kicker out of Hoover (Ala.) was in Athens (Ga.) over the weekend and the Bulldogs offered offered him a scholarship. He already held offers from Alabama and LSU and a commitment to one of those three schools could be nearing.

"It is down to Alabama, Georgia and LSU and I plan on committing in the next few weeks, but if I need more time, then I will take it," said Reichard.

A couple of weeks ago, Reichard told Rivals that it was Alabama and LSU at the top of his list, but an offer from Georgia would put the Bulldogs right there with the Crimson Tide and Tigers.

That offer happened over the weekend and Reichard had a great visit to Athens.

"The coaching staff at Georgia is energetic and personable. The leadership is great and there’s a lot positive energy. They treated my mom and me very well and made us feel at home. Coach [Kirby] Smart said they really wanted me to come there and make a difference in their program.

"I like how Georgia is close to home too and also close to Atlanta. They have a lot of connections for after football and I like that."

He is a little more familiar with Alabama, an in-state school. Nick Saban offered Reichard earlier this year on a visit and one of Saban's new hires could make a difference.

"I have been to Alabama for one game every year and I was back there for a Junior Day not that long ago. That is when I was offered. Coach Saban talked to me in his office and offered, so that was cool.

"I like how Alabama is close to home, so it would allow me to see my family and it would not be hard for my family to see my games. I also like the new special teams coach, coach [Jeff] Banks, he is a cool guy. He is one of the best in the business and I think he could really change special teams at Alabama."

LSU offered last summer at a camp in Baton Rouge. Since then, Reichard has visited for a game and a Junior Day. The Tigers have impressed.

"The people at LSU are really special and they make it seem like they really want me to come there," said Reichard. "When I walked in for my last visit, the entire coaching staff was standing there waiting for me, so that made me feel special.

"I had a good academic visit when I was there last time and I see they are updating a lot of their facilities, so that is cool. The atmosphere there is great, especially at night and I love their fans."

All signs point to Reichard, not only one of the best kickers in the country, but also one of the best punters playing in the SEC. He is going to go in to the school he chooses as a kicker, but could easily punt if needed.

He is a kicker who plans to keep kicking after college is over.

"Academics are very important thing to me, but I am also going to base my decision off who I feel can develop me. I don't want to just play in college, but I want to play in the NFL too. I would like to play for championships too and be happy where I am.

"I really hope to commit in the next three to four weeks. It is something I am thinking about right now."

I'm not convinced Sterling Johnson is good enough that he's worth spending an Initial Counter spot on. It might be better to move oversized TE Kedrick James to DL this spring.

If we only need to free up 2 spots under the 85 limit for transfers (1 grad QB & 1 Juco DL) then maybe Kief and Clark will take care that.

Do-it-all athlete Kris Abrams-Draine commits to LSU

quote:

Kris Abrams-Draine has committed to LSU, he tells 247Sports.

The Spanish Fort (Ala.) offensive weapon has seen his recruitment take off following an explosive 2017 season, resulting in double-digit scholarship offers, but he's trimmed his list all the way down to one over the last several days.

The Tigers offered him just before he took a visit to Baton Rouge on Saturday and on the way back home he knew the SEC West program would be his pick, one made public on Wednesday afternoon.

"Well when I visited there I already knew I wanted to go to LSU," Abrams-Draine said. "They treated me like family...

"When I was on my way home after the visit me and my mom was talking about it and she said she really likes it."

The class of 2020 prospect, who says the Tiger coaching staff likes him on the offensive side of the football, spent considerable time with the group while on the junior day visit that has already yielded several new verbal commitments.

"I have a good relationship with all the coaches," he said. "They said they like that I can play any where on the field and they said I fit in their new game plan. I'll play anything to help the team.

"I'm an athlete, I think I'm best at receiver. When I get the ball, I can make plays. I'm shifty..."

Head coach Ed Orgeron has expressed his desire for Abrams-Draine to pick the program on multiple occasions, including while in person over the weekend.

"He said he’ll love to coach me and I can come up there anytime I want," he said. "They've been recruiting me since the beginning of last year. I went to a game when they played Auburn (October 14).

"It was amazing, everybody is loud every single play."

Abrams-Draine scored 19 offensive touchdowns in 2017, doing so primarily as a wide receiver along with production from the quarterback position and as a rusher. He totaled 1,169 yards from scrimmage, including double-digit scores and more than 900 yards as a pass-catcher. His sophomore season effort earned first-team Class 6A All-State honors as an athlete.

2020 kid. Not really concerned about it. That's a long way out. We'll see if it sticks. Heck, the kid may not even like the staff LSU hires after they fire Ed at the end of the 2019 season.
