This surprised me a little since their program has few highlights. It goes to show, however, that consistency over the long haul counts for a lot.

Surprising they have only made the tournament 20 times. I figured it would be more.

Wow. That’s neat.

How many final four appearances do they have again?

During the 10 year period from 1982 to 1991, Alabama was in the championship game of the SEC tournament 8 times compared to only 4 for Kentucky. Alabama won 5 of those championship games. Bama was more of a force in SEC basketball during Wimp's heyday than Kentucky.

Giving too many fricks about Bama BB makes you a sad and somber fellow, at least recently. I never got to see the glory days of Wimp.

Yeah. Bama is top 2 in wins in all 3 sports...football, basketball and baseball. No one else can say this.

For as much people say they only care about football, it's because football has been so dominate. They've been consistent all-time in those 3 sports but have really been successful in sports outside those 3 in the last 5-6 years.

Basketball threads should be banned on the Rant until after Signing Day in February.

At one point during Wimp's run we had more active players in the pro's than any other team in the country.

Numerous SEC titles and plenty of Sweet 16's. Wimp won quite a few SEC tourney titles as well.

Believe it was 1986 or '87 we were 14-2 in the SEC. Finished 28-5 or something like that.

C.M. Newton had some great teams and Gottfried got us to the Elite 8 before he stunk it up.

Damn, there's a lot of salty tears in this thread.

Its Bama basketball... big deal. Don't get your panties in a wad you bitter LSU, Florida fans that want to whine over this.

That was when Coleman Coliseum was The Plaid Palace and games were a lot of fun. We had a lot of good players come through here back then and Wimp Sanderson was a hell of a basketball coach.

Disagree. Spring practice starts in March and goes until April. Football talk can be restricted in May and June. SEC Media Days starts in July so that's when the football talk can get revved up again.
