More importantly two things stopped SEC's expansion into the Carolina and Virginia but one of them came first.

Because of the failure of A&M the SEC decided not to bring in NC State
Then the ACC locked down their members with Grant of Rights soon after.


That is why Greg Sankey didn't pull the trigger on UNC a couple of months ago with the academic scandal.

The ACC approved the Grant of Rights less than 4 months after the 2012 season.
