However, I get why they are where they are.
I don't. I think the SEC media was just lazy and didn't want to do any research into South Carolina basketball when they made their picks.
The USA Today poll is at least a little closer to where SC should probably be picked in preseason.
I get that it is preseason, but I don't think I've ever seen a major conference team that made it to the Final Four (especially one of only a few SEC teams to ever make it) get so little respect the following year.
The fact that Chris Silva didn't even make a preseason all-SEC team is a joke.

I love this narrative. Bama has some of the best attendance numbers in the conference despite having the worst arena, a smaller city than most SEC teams, and a fairly meh product as of late
I bet not many SEC basketball fan bases could fill up off campus arenas the same way Bama sold out games in Huntsville and Birmingham

So fricking stupid. Alabama and Mizzou won't do shite. They're ranked high because of a high recruiting class. Counzo is a mediocre coach and Avery is overrated as hell. The top four will be UK, Arky, UF and aTm. It looks like the only thing these pre season fricks do is look at freshman recruits, rather than players already on the team that has had at least a year to get MUCH better.

They don't do research outside of looking at the latest recruiting classes and blue bloods.

Enjoy the NIT... again
You're only getting hyped because Avery Johnson is your coach.

Frank Martin was 28-38 and 9-27 in the SEC his first 2 seasons in the SEC with 0 winning records, led alone a NIT. He seemed to turn out alright.

Yea, that and the fact that we finished 10-8 in the SEC last year, tied for 5th, lost in the semis of the SECT, won 19 games and return basically our entire roster. Plus a Top 10 pick. Plus another 5-star freshman.
Weird, don't know why anyone would think we might be slightly better this season.

What do you mean by this? That South Carolina had never had a winning record before Frank Martin arrived?
Because you know that is false right?

I'll take losing to alabama every year if it means more postseason success, but that's just me.

Of course you would. I would too.

Poorly worded
The points I meant to make were :
- he took over a bad program (at the time, not historically)
- he had 0 winning records in his first 2 seasons
The point was it takes a while to get things rolling, even for a great coach like Frank Martin.

South Carolina is a bad program historically, too. It is ok to say that.

Alabama basketball has high standards. I remember when they were #1 in the early 2000s and beat a good Oklahoma squad; believe it was the 2002-2003 season.

We were #1 for like a week if I remember correctly, then lost to Utah.

LOL - our program in a nutshell. Start 9-0 and gain our first ever #1 ranking.......... lose 7 of our next 11, sneak into the tournament at 17-12 and lose in the 1st round to a bad Indiana team.

I hope these rankings are posted in the Hogs locker room all year.

Not for us that were around for Wimp and going to games at The Plaid Palace. Gottfried had us excited for awhile, hell we were #1 for a week. David Hobbs was between those eras and he was awful, I went to high school with his son and would tell him everyday I hoped his dad gets fired.

we've had pretty good attendance considering we have probably the worst arena in the league.
I've heard some basketball arenas have luxury suites that allow fans to see the game live instead of having to watch it on an admittedly large TV screen at the practice facility next door, but that option isn't at LSU yet. As for the design and look of the building itself, back in the early '70s, rather than build something that resembled the Renaissance domestic style of northern Italy like the rest of the campus, LSU chose to construct an arena that looks like a grounded spaceship from a campy 1950s science fiction movie. If only that ship would take flight, and leave the campus for good.
