FPI is run by statistics. Your melt will still be heard, though.

If that was the thinking, then it was probably because if you appeal to the NFL then it's easier to recruit. But I don't think that was the thinking.
If we had a complete change in philosophy then why did we go hard after Brandon Harris? He's a Dual threat
We've gone after 3 less mobile. (I say less mobile because none of them are complete statues back there but they aren't Cam or Nick mobility wise).
Gus was handed Jeremy Johnson. He didn't really pick him. He was committed and it was too late to go after anybody else. As a backup, JJ looked good so there was no caution sign that we should completely stay away from less mobile guys. The only reason we went after White was because we missed on Harris and we didn't have any real shot at anybody else that year that was a 4 star or higher. So that was more of taking what was left. Then there's Stidham. But I don't know how you can blame Gus for recruiting him when all of us were clamoring for him.
To me up to this point, we thought we could use either a pocket passer or more of a runner and we just took what we got. But now it's more clear that we have to have a runner. This is part of the reason I think Gus should get more time. Defense was the problem early, he fixed it. Now not having a runner at QB is the problem, will he fix it? I haven't seen us recruiting any pocket passers. Gatewood is a runner. Fields is a runner.
I think people forget that the players playing now are usually recruited 2-3 years ago unless you get some stud. It takes time to fix things.

I'm still not 100% convinced we need a running QB. With a solid offensive line and a couple quality RBs, a pocket passer could still work for us. I guess part of the problem is that the numbers game works to our advantage with a running QB so execution has to be damn near perfect without it.

Agree. We took JF3 and Woodey Barret (both had potential initially). Seems like he was taking the best option available. You also have to factor in people converting to the spread reduce the amount of DT QBs in general.

In a way, both of these statements are true. We could have a great offense with Shawn White or Jarrett Stidham. However, we would have to change from the offense Gus is comfortable with. Gus has now proven he will never do that. So, as long as Gus is calling the shots, he will need a dynamic running threat at QB to have a good offense.
We can either change offenses/HC or have a dynamic runner. Gus won't be successful with a primary pocket passer.

Seems a bit of a reach considering we're 3 games in to the season.

Who gives a frick about the NFL anyway.
The type of person who just saw Chip Kelly hired by the NFL and find success year 1 with a spread/college offense
As in, the implication was that Gus would have made the jump to the NFL. It also makes sense in the context that Gus didn't demand a contract extension after 2013, which would have increased his buyout/made him less attractive

His core offense ideas are fine, his development of the concepts are not.
Doesn't appear that he understands that though. He's like M Night Shyamalan. Started strong, never progressed/evolved

there was more motion, end arounds, creativity, & variety (even in WR routes with Adams) in '09 with Todd, McCalleb, Eric Smith, Zachery, & Tate than there have been the past few years
Fanin was second on the team in catches

What does a recruit from the c/o 2014 have to do with the 2017 offense?
When we went after Harris we were coming of a NCG appearance with a DT QB. And youre overplaying how hard we went after Harris anyway, we had basically stopped going after him before ge committed to LSU.

Further proof why that FPI BS should not be trusted.

Well because if you say he switched philosophies later then you have even less of a case. Your entire case that he switched to recruiting pocket passers would be based on the fact that we recruited Stidham and that's it...
You want me to list more? John Franklin, Woody Barrett...

No we didn't

I’d really like to hear an explanation for this. Especially the jet sweeps. shite is mind boggling. What’s the point of the motion if you never give it?

So much blame on scheme and coaching...the OL doesn't control the line of scrimmage. Hasn't since 2015. Didn't really do it in 2014 in red zone or short yardage. There is no offense that works when the OL can't control the line of scrimmage.
There is a reason why Chip took it on the chin every time he played a decent team at Oregon. His offensive couldn't control the line of scrimmage.
IMO Gus' greatest weakness is the OL and its development. I don't know if he isn't sure of what he wants, can't convince recruits he can get them to the next level with his scheme or his practice routine makes it difficult to develop the attitude necessary to control the line of scrimmage. The more success Steele has with his "changed" practice methods over past DC's the more convinced I am that Gus' practice style is hurting the OL.

i think we ran like two against Clemson and they went for like 5 & 6 yards each. that's a solid gain that opens up the middle of the field and would help neutralize their DL
eli stove has three carries this year

Was just texting with my buddy UGA and we were sharing the same frustrations. Richt couldn't take advantage of a wayyyy down East and AU is in the position of doing the same thing in the West right now. Every team outside of Bama is a mess but unfortunately we are in that same position though we have no excuse to be.

Closer to 3 more losses based on probability.
