Bulovas comes from Mandeville, La., where he was 68-for-76 on extra points and 11-for-25 kicking field goals with a long of 52.
That's truly terrible. We signed him for the same reason GT and other offered him a scholly--he has a big leg. Sounds like more of a project that a sure fire great kicker from day 1. Oh well, pray for JK Scott.

Any chance we go after Evan McPherson if Bulovas has a terrible year or Scott beats him out and handles double duty?

AL.com just confirmed the numbers I saw from MaxPrep:
I have no idea if the kid is any good or not, but I'd never rely on al.com to confirm anything. The odds are 95% or better they pulled the number they reported straight off MaxPreps and just didn't credit the site.

AL.com more than likely got those numbers from Max Preps. I doubt they got those stats independently.
Kicker is just a damn tough position to recruit. There is so much mentally that goes into the position. Look at Roberto Aguayo from FSU. I've rarely seen a guy as automatic as him in the college game, and now here he is in year two of his NFL career and he's already been cut for inconsistency.

There's no way to reach that conclusion. Maybe his high school team was poorly coached on kick protection. There's really no way to say without having watched him. The guy looked outstanding during the Army Game.

Maybe Nick can talk the NCAA into disallowing FGs.

REC has been slacking, not commissioning studies on increased injury during FGAs.
Ditto no huddle/RPO type play.

Valid concerns about our kicking game. Three weeks away from the first game and having kicks blocked is a huge concern.
However, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this and will probably get downvoted to hell for it. If this team comes down to a FG or PAT from winning a natty than it wasn't a natty caliber team to begin with.

If it comes down to it, JK will take the kicks he isn't that bad honestly. Kicks a pretty kickoff nice and high.

Griff could kill it in games when nothing was on the line and/or Bama had a big lead...not so much in big games.

The numbers say this isn't true at all. He had a bad sophomore season all around, but don't forget that he came in injured to send the LSU game to OT with a last play kick.
As a junior and senior, he was 7/9 - 78% (which notably better than his overall career percentage and better than his single season best of 75%) in games Bama won by no more than 7 or lost and he executed one of the best onside kicks in the history of football.
He was the anti Cade Foster. He did his best work when it mattered the most.

It's nearly football season. Fans are melting about a kicker they haven't even seen yet.

So from what I've gathered this is what it's looking like. Pap does the 30 maybe 35 yard and in and JK is everything else. JK kicks a nice pretty kickoff but I am wondering if they will enforce some kind of a kick count. Not sure but the above seems like what they are going towards.

I've always wondered about this. Does punting 4-5 times a game really wear your leg out? QB's throw it 30-40 times a game with their arm. Other players are out there 80-90 plays. Why is too much for a kicker to punt, kickoff and do FG's? I mean total, that might mean 15 kicks a game? Maybe I just don't understand how this works. If Paps handles extra points and short FG's--that might be 8-10 kicks a game for JK.

So is Pap pretty reliable if the LOS is the 15 or closer?
If that's the case, unless it is a last play to win or lose decision I'd be completely satisfied with using him on those kicks, going for it if the LOS is the 15-30, and just punting anything further out.

From what I've seen Pap is fine 30 yards in, anything past that and he gets a little wild. Our new kid Bul is all over the map and kicks a low ball. That is not the guy we want out there. JK IMO is the only one capable of somewhat consistently making those longer FG's. Unless this new kid just turns a corner or Pap grows some kicking muscle.
