re: Don't write off OM's 2017 season just yet. They might be pretty good.

Have the OM fans just completely given up the sport altogether? I don't see too many OM posters these days, and surprisingly none on this thread which is one of the few positive OM threads out there. I personally think OM will be a very dangerous team mainly because they might have the best up and coming QB in the SEC in Shea Patterson. We will be talking a lot about him by the time the season ends. Will he try to transfer like Stidham?

Exactly. Which isn't a good strategy if you are trying to win an SEC title. But it is a great strategy with nothing to lose if you want to try to take out a top 10 team for the hell of it. That's why I am predicting a few upsets for teams that overlook them.

The interim coach is named in a few allegations, so he could be facing sanctions as well

Nah, they cut that shite out when the NCAA showed up. No one would be that arrogant/stupid

(RS)Seniors: #8 class - has essentially nobody left
(RS)Juniors: #15 class - maybe 5 actual contributors left
(RS)Sophomores: #17 class - a couple WRs and one good OL, filler outside of that
(RS)Freshmen: #5 class - legitimately a very good class
True Freshmen: #30 - trash besides one player and maybe some diamonds
There is no depth on that team. Good qb, good receivers, lots of questions marks outside of that. And motivation has to be a big question at this point

Get a show cause in the middle of a season as an interim HC?

How did they finish the season last year?

Look at what 1993 Auburn did in Bowden's first year with a bowl ban and tv ban after Dye stacked the roster with paid players.
AU was not even investigated by the NCAA for recruiting violations under Dye. In fact, the primary accuser in the case testified to NCAA investigators that he received no inducements to sign with AU, and only received illegal benefits after he had been on campus for two years.
Your allegation is unfounded.

OM is in a worse situation than we were, too. We were coming off a Sugar Bowl. OM didn't even make a bowl last year.
Good point. Weren't we a Top 10 team to start the season?
And while our situation was about as bad as anybody could imagine (thanks for always going one rung lower, OM) we at least had six months to get our shite together before the season.
Yeah, Ole Miss is looking at 3 wins. Discipline and structure are important. I will never forget seeing us completely fall apart at A&M that season. We did not even look remotely like the same team from the year previous.

Bowl ban and they lose their head coach. They're going to be 2-10 bad
Posted on 7/21/17 at 11:57 am to Monticello
No they won't be. This is EXACTLY like 2012 Arkansas with the Bobby Petrino situation, except worse with very likely pending sanctions. It's very likely the players are disinterested and this year is a disaster for them.
At best, it's like last year's Baylor and they play well to start but after a point they're disinterested and go 6-6.

I hate to spin this into an Auburn thread, but if anything I said was unfounded then how did Auburn end up with a bowl ban and tv ban for the season after Dye resigned? Paying players already on the team is still a recruiting violation that lures better players to the team. Otherwise why would you pay them? I only brought up Auburn as an example of what a talented team with nothing left to lose is capable of.

The biggest difference with Arkansas is that Arkansas wasn't actually all that talented. Petrino never recruited well there. He was just a damn good coach who could get 3 stars to play like 5 stars in his system. Freeze was a solid coach too, but he has a lot of legit NFL caliber talent on that roster to leave to Luke.

I would imagine that several of those freshman making up that "#5 class" will be transferring. They were straight up lied to by Freeze and the program is going up in flames.
They are going to lose a LOT of games this year.

You will see these guys mail it in in order to preserve their bodies.
Seniors will save themselves for the draft. Underclassmen will save themselves for transfer. It will be like Penn State where everyone will vow to stay together and not transfer. Then one player will break and the slow trickle of players mailing it in will turn into a river.
There's really no motivation for any of these players to bust their arse this season. And if you slack off even a little in the SEC West you will get steamrolled.
This will be a distraction for them all season long. Every question from the media this season will be about Freeze and the NCAA investigation.
They have a new QB and they didn't make a bowl last year despite having an NFL QB.
All signs point to a losing season.

All led by an offensive line coach who Ole Miss fans have wanted fired for years. Lol.
