If anything, the coaching talent in the "little 8" programs is the best it has ever been. The problem is how bad (or at least unproven) it is in the "Big 6" programs.

And those two scenarios are a direct product of each other. If your lower tier schools like MSU, OM, UK, etc have good coaching and can compete with the Big 6, those Big 6 schools are going to have a lot of coaching turnover. Every single Big 6 program has realistic fan expectations that their coach should be in the title hunt every year, and actually win a title every 3-4 years. That is not possible when teams like MSU and OM are winning 10 games. So turnover at the top leads to quality at the bottom, and quality at the bottom leads to turnover at the top.

The next two seasons will tell the tale with Mac- both on the field (Florida should be a playoff contender in 2018) and off (Florida will likely have back-to-back top 3-5 classes in 18 and 19).
