The Oklahoma legislature won't allow OU and OSU to be in different conferences.

No, it isn't happening but this will not be the reason.

As a person who spends time in Oklahoma and listens to them talk sports and knowing a booster or two(three) from each school, the worry for Oklahoma State IS what will they do if OU does leave the Big 12.

OU wants to join the Big 10 because they believe their academics are better than what they actually are. To them(their president)the SEC is beneath them. The fans, they would love to join the SEC. Not their administration. All the while, Oklahoma State will likely be left and figuring out a home on their own.

If the Big 12 were to fold, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, likely Baylor now with what all has been happening there...those schools would likely have to form their own conference...stay as the Big 12...or join a lesser conference more than likely.

Sooners also have the most SEC like sports profile

2 CWS, last in 1994
3 WCWS, last in 2016
2 gymnastics Nattys, last in 2016
1 Golf Natty in 1989
5 M Final Fours, last in 2016
3 W Final Fours, last in 2010

They would also give Missouri a pal in wrestling in the SEC

Kansas and Iowa State would be welcome in the Big Ten. Both are AAU schools.

Sooners have an issue in that where they go may affect what happens to OK State.

Sooners in the B1G or PAC without OK State and the Pokes wind in the SEC (say with Kansas) and suddenly the Sooners are Clemson and Pokes are South Carolina. In a generation Sooners will have withered and Pokes will have grown. SEC likes to make lemonade with the schools others consider lemons.
