re: Lost in last night: Was that the most blatant attempt to steal a game?

It's amazing how quickly the bitch went from needing a tracheostomy to hitting two free throws and finishing the rest of the game. God is good

So basically everyone who understands how rules work thought the right call was eventually made. Glad you pulled it out. The rule is bad but the rule allows for a review and it was most definitely flagrant. Just be happy UCONN was stupid enough to turn it back over to you with twelve seconds left or you really would have been screwed

I still don't understand how that accidental elbow wasn't considered a play on the ball
Posted on 4/1/17 at 12:33 pm to VivaZapata27
No. A flagrant foul is something intentional. She was looking at the ball and never was intentional
Posted on 4/1/17 at 12:34 pm to VivaZapata27
No actually all other media outlets and rules experts called it a bullshite call. male ref walked off and ignored it. It was the female refs who wanted it to be flagrant. I understand your disappointment though.

Bad call. Should have called the fake flop on UCONN dude.

I've legitimately never seen such a blatant misuse of applying a flagrant foul in a key situation in my life. What would've happened if State scored on that possession after the fact? Does the flagrant erase it?
This. Beyond that, it was clearly incidental contact. The UCONN girl flopped but you could tell from the replay that the MSU girl didn't haul off and purposely drive her elbow into her. If she had that girl wouldn't have left the bench for a while. An intentional elbow to the larynx isn't something you grab your throat and then pop right up from.

Right call but it should have been made 20 seconds earlier.

what I am saying is that a flagrant foul is a flagrant foul
Your statement is true, but that wasn't a flagrant foul. It clearly wasn't intentional and I'm not sure the UConn player wasn't flopping trying to draw a call.

I'm not even arguing about the call of it being flagrant (which it wasn't - clear flop).
THEY WENT BACK AND CALLED A FOUL RETROACTIVELY. It is the exact same thing as going back and calling a holding play on a previous play. I've watched a lot of sports and I have never seen that happen.
I'm not talking about reviewing a foul to see if its flagrant. That happens all the time. These officials went back and called a foul after a possession by the other team. It was a crooked attempt to give UCONN the game and it almost worked.

Well if you wondering if they can do that in football I can tell you absolutely they can and they did. They did it to us twice AFTER plays had already been ran when we were still a rebuilding team. Oddly, enough now that we're competitive again calls go our way a lot more.

The last people I want lecturing me on rules would be an Ole Miss fan. It's odd that the only people who agreed with the call wear red and blue sunglasses.

Why don't they go back now and review every play and decide flagrant 1's etc. and let the teams shoot the corresponding free throws in front of an empty gym today?

What makes it worse is that if you've watched any women's games they allow a helluva lot more contact than the men's games. This call was way out of character for a women's game.

I was actually disappointed that y'all nearly got screwed because the call was delayed. Doesn't matter what you or any ESPN talking head thinks. If you create contact with a players head by extending your arms upward toward their head it is technically a flagrant one. Whether it should be or not is a different debate. Same with doing retroactive review. I think it's dumb but it is the rule.

ANC I feel we both agree that they should NOT be able to review that after game time has passed. But it is the rule that they CAN do that at the next stoppage of play. Hopefully the situation will show the rules committee that it needs to be changed.

Does anyone have the rule so we can determine if the call was bull shot?

The officiating sucked.
:kige:
This happens when Huskies, they have had the refs for the past 10 - 20 years. Generally if Mattingly or Kanter are calling a game you are screwed if you are not Connecticut or an ACC team (generally UNC and Duke, but Notre Dame has benefitted from their ACC membership).
quote:
State's 6-7 center had two ticks tack could in the first couple of minutes that caused her to sit.
Not like Connecticut needs the help as they have Geno and ESPN behind them but this is standard fare in teams facing Huskies. Angel @ Line Beards felt this in their Final Four with Huskies. Mathis @ Cats got the same treatment when they plated Huskies for a trip to the Final Four. By the end of the game the fouls can look really lopsided for Uconn but even when they do not, top players of opponents will have early foul trouble till they are no longer effective.
quote:
ESPN announcers cheered them on.
Been that way for ages and until ESPN starts giving the rest of the country the same positive coverage they give Huskies and ACC it will be hard for parity to make the game more popular across the USA.

It was a attempt to steal a game. It backfired, but it was still an attempt to steal the game.
:kige:
Interesting as seems Mattingly and Kanter were not officiating and Huskies lost.
Nobody is saying Geno is a bad coach or Huskies are not a viable team but when the media and refs are on their side it really does hamper the overall enjoyment of the game.

The refs can manipulate that game more than any other. It's as easily done in the first few minutes as the last few minutes.
Interestingly Bobby Knight made this very point in an interview about the Men's game when he was still at Indiana. Said the NCAA should be just as concerned about big media companies as they were about the mob fixing games. If memory serves, he was out at Indiana less than a year later.
