So I got to thinking, which is dangerous in its own right.
Which is harder to accomplish..
Getting into a bowl game, making a college regional, word series, etc... or making the NCAA tourney?
How many bowl games are there?
How many teams are eligible for a bowl, etc..
How many are in a regional, super regional, the college world series.
How many teams play for this opportunity?
etc...

My guess on easiest to hardest:
Bowl game
Baseball Regional
NCAAT
CWS

Baseball Regional
NCAAT
CWS

NCAA Tourney in both basketball and baseball is more of an accomplishment. Roughly 40-50% of teams in NCAAF get a bowl. In basketball, there are about 300 NCAAB teams and roughly 20% make the tourney. Football is very resource intensive, so you can almost spend your way to the top. In basketball, the field is slightly more level.

Agreed and Bowl game is very easy even in a tough conference like the SEC. You really should be always getting at least 3 in OCC play, just have to get 3 more of the other 9. Sometimes less

It's harder to get to the sweet 16 in basketball than it is to get to the cws.
A super regional would be the equivalent of an at large bid in basketball.
A regional the nit.
Making a bowl game before New Year's Day is the easiest.

I'd says it's about the same for baseball and basketball. Baseball takes less teams though.

Less schools have baseball teams as well, even less have competitive programs.

ok...
So, making the NCAA tourney in basketball is more difficult than the rest.
I am very proud that MA held this team together and although I want more (Who doesn't) Satisfied for this season at this point.
The rest is just gravy for me for this season.

Let's be honest, some were pissed Mike was hired for the job, they've been pissed every year since that he has kept the job and they will be pissed when he signs a new contract extension and is given a raise after this season.
They are not rational objectionable people.
If Bert comes out and wins 11 games next year he will be praised for the turn around he done as a coach after a disappointing season.
If DVH makes the sec tourney after his losing season last year the same will be said, he doesn't it will be blamed on injuries and it's fine it happens.
Mike improves the team by 10+ wins this season, plays for the sec championship 2 out of 3 years? Nope, not good enough.

No it is not. It is much harder to win a 3 game series against a quality opponent. There are sub par teams getting a lucky draw and making the sweet 16 every year in basketball. There are very, very rarely bad teams in the CWS. You aren't going to luck your way out of a super regional.

Yeah it is, teams who didn't compete for their conference regular season or tourney championship, or the subpar teams, make it to Omaha every year.
It's harder to win at a neutral site than at home which is why we've seen teams get bounced early after arriving to Omaha.

You think it's easier to make the NCAAT from the SEC than a Regional? You basically just have to have a winning record to make a Regional out of the SEC. Our conference reputation is so much better there than in basketball.

I'm realistic but he hasn't gotten us "there" yet. I certainly won't be satisfied with Arkansas basketball if all we manage to do is make the NCAAT every now and then regardless of who is coaching the team. IF (and it may not be possible) we are going to get back to the glory days of Arkansas basketball it's going to take more than that.

That is terrible criteria for determining what is subpar on a national scale. There are plenty of SEC baseball/football teams that would win other conference championships yet aren't competing for their own. Aside from Kentucky, there isn't another SEC team that would have competed for the ACC conference or tournament basketball championship. If you moved Arkansas or Florida to the ACC they would be subpar by your definition.

I'm honestly happy in basketball with an average of 67-70% winning percentage. That averages out to a 22-11 to about 24-9 every year. When we can consistently start doing that (assuming a few up and down years now and again), I'll say we're where we need to be.

Who's saying it's not good enough? This team has shown good improvement from last year. Even if we get put out in the first round it wasn't a bad season. But sometime soon were gonna have to get to the sweet 16. And its not moving the goal post. It's called progress.

Meh... if you are upset that the pitchforks and torches came out after a loss to one of the worst teams in Division 1 then I don't know what to tell you Dale. That is just going to happen.
I mean Bama fans worship the ground Saban walks on but if Mercer knocks them off next season they will be rioting in the streets.
I was so-so on him early in the season, down on him after the bad loss to Mizzou, and I've been thrilled with the turn around Mike pulled off down the home stretch. If MA wants to keep the fans from baying for his blood he needs to make sure losses like that don't happen.
After all, we all roasted Bert over the coals after his bad losses. You make the big bucks you got to deliver the big results or the fans are not going to be happy campers.

If either Florida or Arkansas had the same record and were from the acc both would be up several spots in the seeding.
On the flip side an SEC baseball team can fail to make it to Hoover and still find themselves in the NCAAs as we've seen. Really an sec team has to do is finish above .500 to make the lost season most years.
The cbi is hesitant to allow the bottom four sec teams to buy into their tournament in basketball...

There are only 128 FBS football schools. There are 41 bowl games, 80 teams made bowl games this past season, including 20 with 5-7 records. There are 347 College basketball teams eligible for the NCAA tournament each season. 34 of those go to the conference winner and there are only another 34 at large teams.
