It's been a nightmare, but we are celebrating little wins like we won the lottery.

We sold our kitchen table before we left so we've been shopping for a new one. My wife wants something specific so the ones we've been looking at are ridiculously expensive.

Well we went to an antique store on Sunday and saw one we liked that was handmade by a guy and his wife, but it was too small.

We called them on Monday and they are custom building us one in the exact same style, but bigger at 7 and a half feet long by 4 feet wide for only $450. We were floored by how inexpensive it is because it is solid wood and looks incredible. They are also custom building us a 6 foot long pew bench to match it for one side for $250.

Most of the tables we looked at in similar style and length were around $1,000 and that was before adding chairs and a bench.

Well we went to another antique flea market and found another round table with 5 chairs that match our table design and paid $150 for all of them.

So we got two tables, five chairs and a six foot long bench for $950.

We aren't keeping the second table though because we don't need it, so we may make out even better in the end.

How does the cost of living down here compare with Idaho? I'm kinda sheltered when it comes to things like that. I've always lived in Alabama.

I live up in North Alabama in Athens. It's not too far from Amish country (Lawrenceburg/Ethridge, TN area). If you want some superb woodworking/furniture (and other stuff... food and other things) at a terrific price, nothing in the world beats the Amish. Superior craftsmanship from anything you might get in a store, durable, good prices. I don't know if they make kitchen tables (and the ones they make might be too basic for what you're looking for), but I'm just talking in general.
