ALPHA DOG

Clemmons (N.C.) West Forsyth five-star defensive end KJ Henry dominated offensive tackles with his elite burst off the line of scrimmage. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound prospect was able to bend around the corner with ease and found himself getting to the quarterback on a regular basis. Henry looked to be one of the top pure pass rushers in the nation’s on Sunday. Clemson appears to be in good shape for Henry at this juncture in the recruiting process.

Next Five on Defense

1. DT Rick Sandidge: The Concord (N.C.) product is a mountain of an interior lineman standing 6-foot-5, 280-pounds. The Top247 prospect powered his way past offensive linemen with a very effective rip move. Just went it looked that rip was Sandidge’s only move, he threw an offensive guard out of the way with an impressive club. In addition to his strength, Sandidge adds a bit of mobility to make him tough to block in the middle of the line. Sandidge appears to be wide open on his recruitment at this time.

2. CB Jaycee Horn: The Alpharetta (Ga.) standout had the looks of a lockdown cornerback during Sunday’s one-on-one reps. The 6-foot, 175-pound prospect plays with a physical style and did an excellent job staying attached to receivers down the field. Horn named Alabama his leader on Sunday.

3. DT Dante Stills: The Fairmount (W.V.) product is an ultra-athletic defensive tackle as his 6-foot-4, 265-pound frame continues to fill out. The four-star recruit was quick off the line of scrimmage and knifed his way to the quarterback on a regular basis Sunday. Stills is high on in-state West Virginia, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Florida.

4. LB Owen Pappoe: The Loganville (Ga.) Grayson 2019 product was the most athletic linebacker prospect in the camp. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Pappoe changes direction well, flashed great speed, and shredded position drills. Pappoe is one of the best prospects in the nation, regardless of class, and he’s eyeing Georgia, Alabama, Florida State and others early.

5. LB Dax Hollifield: The Shelby (N.C.) star was another athletic linebacker that moved extremely well in position drills. He is a powerfully built 6-foot-1, 220-pounds that had a strong performance in the ‘cat and mouse’ that test linebackers in the open field against running backs. Hollifield looked comfortable in pass coverage as well. North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia Tech sit at the top of Hollifield’s recruitment.

Top Five on Offense

1. QB Trevor Lawrence: The Clemson five-star commit was in the hunt for ‘Alpha Dog’ honors by displaying an arm that was on another level than the rest of the quarterbacks in the camp. The 6-foot-6, 200-pound Cartersville (Ga.) product can drive the ball down the field, hit the deep out, and make any throw you ask of him really. His best throw was a ripped post that he got up and down over the safeties arms to hit his receiver in stride, a throw most other quarterbacks would simply loft down the field.

2. WR Jordyn Adams: The Cary (N.C.) Green Hope standout was elusive in ‘cat and mouse’ drills with defensive backs. Adams, a Top247 prospect, then showed the ability to get behind defensive backs and stretch the field vertically consistently during the one-one portion of the camp. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound recruit is considered a heavy North Carolina lean at this time.

3. QB Jarren Williams: The Lawrencville (Ga.) Central Gwinnett product is not flashing with his play, but he’s certainly effective. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Williams spun accurate and catchable passes from start to finish on Sunday. Williams appeared to be comfortable making throws on the move as well. Kentucky, Florida, LSU and others remain in the picture for Williams.

4. WR Derion Kendrick: The Clemson commit is a dynamic athletic that proves to be a touch cover with his quickness. Double moves were when the 6-foot, 180-pounder was the most effective. Kendrick is ultra-competitive and certainly willing to jaw with defenders.

5. RB Ricky Person: The N.C. State running back commit is physically impressive looking at 6-foot-2, 210-pounds, but it was his nimble feet and ability to make defenders miss that stood out on Sunday. Person’s jump cuts in the ‘cat and mouse’ drill were extremely effective.

Other Camp Notables

— Ohio State quarterback commit Emory Jones was up and down much of the day. Despite some of those troubles, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound recruit can rip beautiful throws that compare with some of the best. Jones just needs to improve his consistency and make those throws more regularly.

— Hopewell (Va.) running back Ronnie Walker had a strong performance catching the ball out of the backfield and making defenders miss in the open field. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound recruit looked explosive doing both.

— Hampton (Ga.) Dutchtown’s Trey Dean is ranked as a safety at 247Sports. However, the 6-foot-2, 180-pounder moved well in drills, and looked good enough in coverage that cornerback might be an option for him on the next level. Regardless where he lines up, it’s clear Dean will bring a lot of length to the secondary.

— LSU outside linebacker Adam Anderson is certainly an explosive athlete coming off the edge. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound recruit still looks lean and needs to add strength, but his speed rush is impressive.

— The top offensive lineman at the camp very well might have been Montgomery (Ala.) Park Crossing’s Tank Jenkins due to his versatility. The 6-foot-3, 330-pound recruit excelled as an offensive guard with a strong base, but he also won his share of reps at offensive tackle as well. Ultimately, guard is his best spot, but the mobility to handle speed rushes was surprising.

— North Carolina linebacker commit Payton Wilson is a big, athletic prospect that stands 6-foot-4, 225-pounds. At that height, he has the frame of a defensive end, but Wilson was comfortable chasing smaller running backs in the open field.

— Charlotte (N.C.) Harding center Jovaughn Gwyn won a vast majority of his reps on Sunday. The 6-foot-2, 290-pounder would simply stone the pass rush as soon as he got his hands on the defensive tackle. West Virginia and South Carolina are two of his recent offers.

Quarterback

Clemson commit Trevor Lawrence showed why he is the nation's top quarterback and player. From individual drills to the 7-on-7 portion of the event, the Cartersville (Ga.) standout was clearly the event's top signal-caller. He is the total package.

Running Back

Four-star Wake Forest (N.C.) Heritage athlete Ricky Person, who is committed to NC State, spent the day at running back. Person is a big, physical runner. He showed good instincts and quickness. Person also caught the ball extremely well in 7-on-7.

Wide Receiver

Fort Meyers (Fla.) Bishop Verot wide receiver Deven Thompkins is relatively unknown in recruiting circles, but was uncoverable on Sunday. The 5-foot-7, 150-pound Thompkins showed great quickness and ran crisp routes. He also displayed great concentration and hands.

Offensive Line

Four-star Montgomery Ala.) Park Crossing Marcus Jenkins was extremely aggressive at the point of attack all afternoon and it often ended with the defender on his back. Multiple ACC and SEC programs are competing for Jenkins.

It might be time for us to offer this dude.

Defensive Line

Fairmont (W.V.) defensive end Dante Stills was explosive off the ball and played with great leverage. He also did a nice job using his hands, was very disruptive and played extremely hard. He has a top six of North Carolina, West Virginia, Oklahoma, amp; Penn State, Louisville amp; and Virginia Tech.

So this guy was the MVP yet KJ Henry was the one invited to the Opening?

Seems legit.

Linebacker

2019 Loganville (Ga.) Grayson outside linebacker Owen Pappoe showed why he is one of the premier rising juniors in the country. Pappoe displayed great speed and quickness. He was instinctive, athletic and physical. He is closing in on 40 scholarship offers.

Defensive Back

Four-star Alpharetta (Ga.) cornerback Jaycee Horn frustrated receivers all day with his aggressiveness, length and athleticism. He was also very physical and showed strong ball skills. Alabama leads, but Tennessee, South Carolina and Wake Forest are other schools to watch.

An "insider" on another site says Jarez Parks is enrolling this Summer.

No mention of whose spot he is taking.

Alabama has put an offer on the table for 2019 four-star quarterback Grant Gunnell, the Houston (Texas) St Pius X product announced on Sunday evening.

The 6-foot-5, 203-pounder is a hot commodity on the recruiting trail for a number of programs including Texas A&M, LSU, and Florida State to name a few.

Alabama has been selective thus far with its quarterback offers for next year's class only putting a handful of feelers out to JT Daniels, Spencer Rattler, Bo Nix, Taulia Tagovailoa and Jalon Jones.

Gunnell is rated the No. 2 pro-style quarterback and the No. 55 overall player in the country, per 247Sports.

Last season, the Lone Star State signal caller threw for 4,970 yards and 71 touchdowns, and rushed for an additional 373 yards and five scores.

Did they say he's enrolling on scholarship? If so, that means someone's already left.

Maybe he's just paying for half a year himself to be on campus?

We also offered Grant Gunnell's favorite target. He's in the Class of 2018.

LSU fans are funny people. Lost a top 5 safety to Texas and all the reactions are "no big deal we're DBU"

They haven't yet realized that Herman is going to start winning and keeping a lot of the top in state guys home beginning in 2018 and beyond
