Not a slam dunk for Alabama to land Bryant’s great-grandson?
SEC Country wrote a feature on Bear Bryant’s great-grandson on Thursday, which shed light on the 2019 in-state quarterback prospect, Paul William Bryant Tyson. Tyson transferred from Mountain Brook High School to Hewitt-Trussville, which has one of the top football programs in the country. There will be lots of eyeballs on that team this spring and fall.
According to Marc Tyson, Paul’s father, Hewitt-Trussville coaches are expecting numerous college representatives every day of spring practice, which begins April 24.
Paul, who stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 210 pounds, doesn’t have any scholarship offers yet, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him pick up a few this spring and summer. With the amount of college coaches that will be at Trussville this spring, it’s hard to think that he won’t impress someone.
Alabama has interest in Paul and invited him to its junior day event last month, but no offer was extended. It’s very possible the Tide offer in the future, but even if they do, it’s no slam dunk that Alabama lands his commitment, he says.
“I want to go wherever is the best place for me where I can help that team win a national championship,” Paul said. “If Alabama was it, then that would be the school. It’s definitely not 100 percent the school I would go to automatically. People might think that, but I would keep my options open.”
Now, do I believe that Tyson won’t go to Alabama if presented the chance? Of course not. I mean, we’re talking about a legacy of Bear Bryant’s. Not only that, but everyone in his family either attended the university or support Alabama. Marc calls Nick Saban a friend. That may be awkward for the friendship if Paul decides to go elsewhere.
But like his father said, so much of quarterback recruiting is about the offense teams run and how that prospect fits into the scheme. It’s still unknown how Brian Daboll’s offense is going to look. Tyson is an old-school, big-bodied pocket passer with limited mobility. Marc said his son is more of an AJ McCarron, Greg McElroy and Jacob Coker type of quarterback than Jalen Hurts and Blake Sims.
Alabama will evaluate Tyson this spring.

Nation’s No. 6 OT says Alabama is coming after him hard
Florida was Richard Gouraige’s dream school growing up, but it’s not the Gators who are going after the nation’s No. 6 offensive tackle the hardest.
“Alabama is recruiting me the most,” Gouraige said and noted the Crimson Tide have compared him to former standout Cam Robinson. “Just follow his steps and get taught by a great coach.”
Gouraige said the Crimson Tide staff sends him lots of mail and he receives texts every day from at least one coach. Saban, as he does every signing day, calls the top priorities of the following class to let them know he hopes they’re announcing their signing next year. Gouraige was one of those recruits to get a call from Saban, but he couldn’t speak to him on that day because he was in class.
But the 6-foot-6, 275-pound prospect knows that he’s a wanted man by Alabama. He said his relationship with offensive line coach Brent Key is growing.
“We always text a lot. He always checks up on me,” Gouraige said. “I appreciate that. He always tells me to work on my craft and keep getting better every single day.”
Gouraige hasn’t been to Tuscaloosa yet. He hopes to make it to campus this summer. The school he’s most associated with is Clemson.
“I love coach (Robbie) Caldwell, coach (Tony) Elliott and coach Dabo Swinney,” he said. “I love those guys. They (want to) make me one of their players. They always talk to me every day to see how I am doing and how my family is doing really.”
Although he says Alabama is recruiting him the most, he’s going to have to visit to become a serious target.

Auburn is only 3 pages behind us.

Just not much to say right now. Very little info out there. I think it will be a slightly slower Spring than years past, but possibly a busier Fall for commitments.

I wonder if everyone's "sources" are coaching in other places now.

Ha. Some may be. Redfish only got occasional info from Cristobal. He knows Pruitt much better, and has a few other friends that are on the staff in lesser roles. At least that's my understanding. I've read some team info recently (although nothing earth shattering, and not a lot of it), but virtually nothing on the recruiting front.

I'm hoping this is the plan, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't getting concerned

Why Bone went back and forth from slightly useless to useless when Thompson left multiple times

Don't be so hard on yourself, bud.

I think we might get knocked off the recruiting throne for a year this cycle. Obviously Saban can recruit nationwide, but the in state talent is well below average IMO. The talent in North Alabama and the Tennessee Valley where I'm from is way down. I like a couple guys around Tuscaloosa- Seth Williams at Bryant in particular. I haven't seen any of Coynis Miller from Birmingham live, but I've heard good things. Also, Jacquez Jones at Hillcrest is underrated, but I don't think he's good enough to crack our linebacker rotation.

4. Jordan Davis, DE – Probably the best defensive line prospect at the camp, you can't miss Davis in the registration line. He's a long, impressive looking kid that looks like we've come to expect these Alabama commits to look. It wasn't some undeniable, dominating showing for Davis but he flashed some unique edge athleticism and the frame is rare.

Why Marshall is done with the Tide
I didn’t get a chance to see 5-star wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. in action all that much on Sunday while I was at the New Orleans Opening regional, but the consensus from those I spoke with at the event who did said Marshall was the best overall player in attendance.
He dominated opposing defensive backs, ran one of the fastest 40 times and took rep after rep, even though he didn’t have anything to prove because he’s already one of the top recruits in the country.
Marshall won’t be going to Alabama, though.
When SEC Country approached Marshall for an interview to talk about the Tide, he ended it immediately and said he was no longer considering the team.
Marshall attends Parkway High School in Bossier City, La. Significantly, Marshall’s former coach at Parkway is David Feaster, the man who publicly said Alabama was not allowed at the school because of how it recruited former LSU quarterback Brandon Harris. Feaster, who is an LSU fan, felt like Alabama wasn’t truthful with its offer to Harris, so he banned the team from recruiting his players on campus. He was fired last month.
The nation’s No. 3 wide receiver told SEC Country that Feaster’s dismissal had nothing to do with him not considering Alabama anymore. It stems from former wide receivers coach Billy Napier leaving for Arizona State. Marshall claims that since Napier left Alabama, he hasn’t heard from the staff much.
It should be noted that even though Marshall says Feaster’s firing has nothing to do with his lack of interest in Alabama now, Marshall was one of the outspoken members of Parkway’s football team when he heard the news of Feaster’s dismissal.
The state of Louisiana’s No. 1 prospect has visited Tuscaloosa multiple times in the past; but moving forward, Alabama is scratched off his list.
LSU is the clear favorite to land his commitment whenever he does make his commitment.

West still is a huge Alabama fan
NEW ORLEANS — Jack West committed to Stanford over Alabama last July despite growing up dreaming about playing for the Crimson Tide. Even though he chose a different red-colored jersey to wear for his college days, West remains a giant Alabama fan.
“They are pretty close to the same red color,” West said with a laugh. “Red is a great color and I’ll always wear it.”
West, the nation’s No. 6 pro-style quarterback from Saraland (Ala.) High School, chose Stanford over Alabama mainly for life-after-football reasons. West is interested in politics and has thought of being a senator or even president one day. Stanford is one of the best universities in the world and he thought it was a better academic fit for him.
“I’m definitely not going to be the smartest guy in the room,” sais West, who has a 4.5 GPA. “I’m going there to study and be a football player, but there’s going to be neurosurgeons, future politicians and people who may cure cancer. I’m just a ballplayer from Alabama.”
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect, who was invited to the prestigious Elite 11 QB camp in June, still hears from Alabama on occasion, but West has made it clear to the Tide staff that he’s 100 percent locked in with the Cardinal. Nothing is going to change his mind — not even the team he grew up wanting to play for.
“One of the greatest things is that they understand that I am committed to Stanford,” West said. “That’s where I’m going to go to school. There hasn’t been too much communication with (Alabama). It’s just been us catching up. That’s why I respect Alabama so much. They care about the players and the kids.”
Now, instead of playing for Alabama, he’s thought of what it would be like to one day play against the Tide in a game. He’s still going to root for the Crimson Tide even when he attends Stanford next season.
“Of course I am an Alabama fan. I won’t shy away from that,” West said. “It broke my heart to see them lose to Clemson. Hey, they had a great year and I expect them to make another run for the championship this season.”
With Alabama looking to get at least one quarterback in the Class of 2018, it’s clear West won’t be the answer.
Best of luck to him. He sounds like a great kid.

So I guess if you haven't figured it out by now, there was an Opening regional in New Orleans this past weekend.
I had a training course I had to attend on Friday so I was unable to post anything and was just plain lazy this weekend.
Here are a couple articles about the regional, before and after.

It's a shame to miss out on him, but I can't blame a guy for taking a free Stanford education. I always like to see in State guys have success unless they choose Auburn.
I'm starting to get worried about this class.
