Western Michigan is undefeated, but they have not played tough competition. Lots of teams ranked ahead of and behind Western Michigan could be undefeated against their schedule.

It is stacked a bit and they do meet in Big 12 country in Grapevine TX to decide
Kirby Hocutt = Big 12 + MAC + ACC
Barry Alvarez = B1G
Jeff Bower = CUSA + Big 12 + ACC + SWC
Herb Deromedi = MAC + B1G
Tom Jernstedt =PAC + MWC
Bobby Johnson = ACC + SEC
Jeff Long = B1G + ACC + SEC
Rob Mullens = Big 12 + ACC + SEC + PAC
Dan Radakovich = ACC + SEC
Condoleezza Rice = PAC + Notre Dame + Alabama
Steve Wieberg = Big 12 + SEC since Mizzou joined
Tyrone Willingham = B1G + PAC + Notre Dame

I do think the top 6 are really close. LSU is the only team outside of the top 10 that I think could beat anyone. The offense has just been so terrible that you can only justify it with the eye test.
I honestly think the only teams that can beat Bama right now are the ones with elite QB play or at least dual threat QBs that can go off for a game.
I'd got Ohio State, Clemson, and Louisville as the only team that can challenge. LSU is the only defense that scares me but no offense is an issue. It's a very weird year.

This ranking confirms what I was personally thinking was likely. The winner of Ohio State-Michigan is in no matter what and Clemson is safe if they win the ACCCG. Louisville is in if they win out and Washington is in if they win out and win the PAC 12 championship.
It'd take total chaos for something different to happen.

I agree, but that doesn't make the other teams' records better than theirs.

That would be 5 teams including Alabama.

Western Michigan has (2) B1G wins and the B1G has two of the top 4 spots in the CFP. Committee has been working hard to squeeze 2 B1G schools into the CFP even tho they will not do the same for the SEC.
Ohio State has 2 real games so far this season and a loss to Penn State
W @ Oklahoma
W @ Wisconsin
Michigan had 1 real game vs Wisconsin and lost to Iowa. Played 1st five games at home and will play 8 of 12 games at home for the season.
Sparty is down and feeding on the likes of Rutgers, Purdue, Maryland, Illinois, and the rest of the crippled children greatly inflates the B1G profiles. Funny how the BCS gets replaced by the CFP and suddenly the B1G is back in the hunt.

Ohio St also clobbered Nebraska. And Michigan also beat Colorado. Other than Bama, there is not an SEC team that has a resume that would justify ranking them above Penn State, Wisc, Mich or OSU. There's no B1G-biased agenda. In the end there will probably only be One B1G team in the top four, and that will most likely be Ohio St.

I would like to see Lamar Jackson play against our defense though.
That's Bama's worst matchup, IMO. Don't know that they'd win, but their offense is the kind that gives Saban/Bama teams trouble.

Every team in the top 6 controls their destiny except Louisville, I think.
Alabama -- obviously
Ohio State -- If they finish 11-1, they're in. Wins over Top 10 Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and Michigan. Their loss came on a blocked kick at Penn State -- that's as flukey a loss as you can have, IMO.
Michigan -- Can finish 12-1 Big Ten champs. Will be curious how they perform with a new quarterback. Until we have data for this, it's only speculation and you can't justify dropping them at this time.
Clemson -- Same as the others. 1 loss P5 champion with wins over ranked Louisville, Auburn, and Florida State. Plus, the Troy win is about as good a midmajor win as anyone.
Washington -- The Huskies will have a chance to be a 1-loss P5 champ with wins over ranked Stanford, Utah, and possibly a rematch with USC in the Pac 12 title. Oh, and Washington State. Should they lose, I would guess Louisville or a B1G champ Penn State would take their spot.

So if Penn State wins out and OSU beats Michigan, doesn't Penn State have the tie breaker over OSU? Assuming they beat Wisconsin in the championship game (B1G) are they going to put OSU in and leave out the B1G champion?
I thought the B1G was all about only conference champions!

Seems like certain teams can lose with total immunity, it's almost like they've made up their minds already as to who they want in the playoffs.
quote:Well, you probably shouldn't have lost 3 games.
I also believe that LSU would be the majority of teams in the top 6. Except Alabama of course and possibly Michigan.
And the SEC kind of sucks this year.

What would your top 4 look like? there is an argument against every team except for Alabama. Let the season play out and everything will fall in to place

The only team that deserves to be up there is Alabama and maaaaaaybe Michigan. I also believe that LSU would be the majority of teams in the top 6. Except Alabama of course and possibly Michigan. Sorry I'm bias towards the SEC

Winner of Ohio State Michigan is not in if Penn State wins out.

You can bet your arse the winner will be in the playoffs since there's no dominant #2 team in the SEC.
And Jim Delany will be eating his words about non conference champs being in the playoffs...I can't wait to watch him squirm.

Don't think there's an agenda, butthey are inadvertently begging teams to avoid opening the season against tough non-conference opponents.

Alabama's been doing it for years and it apparently hasn't hurt them.
Imo, it's concreted their legitimacy.
