can't disagree there. The Ga So game in 2011 is also irrelevant.
we're talking about what woudl happen if teams 21 years apart played each other, it's all irrelevant. I'm just saying bama vs ga southern at LEAST has SOME relevance, considering it saw an ELITE bama defense playing against a triple option offense like nebraska runs.

If Alabama goes 15-0.... by Buckeye06quote:Has literally been said on here and talking heads in the media every year since 2008, yet every postseason and the following preseason, there's the SEC back with 6+ teams in the top 25 Big difference to me this year is there is no topheavy portion of the SEC like in years past. Usually the SEC will have 7 teams with 3 in the top 10 and the other 4 in the back half. This year it's one in the top 10, and 4-5 in the back half. We will see what happens in bowl games, and depending on how many teams are selected to the NY6 from conferences. The B1G could feasibly have 4 teams in the NY6 bowls which mean their other bowl teams are going into the slaughter as they move up multiple slots
Yea - I don't think the SEC is nearly as deep or nearly as good at the top (other than Alabama) as years past.
The bottom half of our bowl teams are gonna have their hands full.

Is anyone in the East ranked? Serious question

Well if you really wanna break it down, Nebraska only had 1 cupcake on their schedule (pacific) while bama has 3 (WKU, Kent State, Chattanooga). So the "bama is playing more games" argument kinda flies out the window.
Nebraska played a CCG as well (that's equal) then played #2 for the title, so in this comparison bama is only playing 1 extra "real" game (the playoff).
Also of note- Nebraska played 4 ranked teams that year (in 12 games), all ranked in the top 10. Alabama has currently played 3 ranked teams (14, 19, 22) with a 4th to come against Auburn. The SECCG opponent will not be ranked. By the time the championship is over, bama will have faced 6 ranked teams (in 15 games), 2 in the top 10.

you made my point, exactly. Thanks.

If you were literally just wondering who has to play in a CCG then play two top 4 teams, the answer is anyone who has ever made it to the title game in the new playoff scenario.
My post was pointing out that it's not like bama this year is facing some incredible gauntlet while nebraska got to play scrubs every week.

Yea, I'm not sure I've ever seen a team as dominate as that '95 Huskers team. They literally raped everyone. Not even '01 Miami did that.
However, IF Bama were to go undefeated this season and run the gauntlet, let the debate rage on. It'd be a fun argument that's completely pointless.

I'm debating about using this as my sig quote. It's beautiful and true.
Possibly Saban's process of playing to a standard, rather than a team or the score, has bled into our fan's mentality. Bama will win by 5 scores, and we'll bitch about points left on the field and bad effort by our second string.

in nebraska's defense it's not their fault they played 3 less games. I'm sure they could have played 3 more games that year and still gone undefeated.

yes, that too.

Every college football fan needs to watch their game against Florida for the national title. That '95 Cornhusker team is the best I've ever seen. They absolutely dismatled an undefeated Florida team.

I may have to do the same. Let's even sprinkle in a few more to embellish it.

Warren St John wrote a book on the 1999 season and talked about Bama having to beat the opponents in front of them, as well as the ghosts of Bama teams past.
Sounds like a good/weird problem to have.
LSU's debate?
2003 or 2007, with an occasional 2011 thrown in.

Crazy fact. And looked up their season on Wikipedia. That year, they beat Kansas, who was ranked #10.

Another crazy fact, 1995 Nebraska gave up zero sacks the entire year.
Posted on 11/15/16 at 4:15 pm to WG_Dawg
Nebraska didn't play a CCG in 1995. Big 8 ended after 1995 season.

Regardless of their schedule, the red team will have run the SEC gauntlet while generating a fair amount of 'quality' points.
Also, they will have had wins against USCw, LSU, and (take your pick) tOSU, MI, Lousiville, Clemson, or Washington.
That will be pretty damn impressive in most peoples books.

Some great hypothetical games were played on this thread, but that is all they are. '95 Nebraska was truly a great team, but I am old enough to remember the '71 Nebraska with Johnny Rogers. They laid the worst whipping on a Bear Bryant team that I can remember. Ironic that since Nebraska finally decided to ditch that "outmoded" option offense, they have never even come close to their former glory days. Will Bryant disciple Mike Riley be able to turn things around for them?
