Honestly who knows if we’d have made the Final Four run at all if he hadn’t left. J’von got us past NMSU

This is very true and I remember this like it was yesterday. I don’t remember where Jvon came from but he acted like that atmosphere didn’t affect him as much as the rest.

Bottom line for today’s game. Juniors and Seniors playing sophomores and freshmen. Add to that All our guards struggled big time. Cooper, Flanigan, and Jamal. None could buy a shot. Our bigs played well but didn’t dominate in rebounding. Move on to the next game and start a winning streak hopefully.

JayWill said post game gonna finish out the season 9-0 and finish first or second in the conference. Sounds good let’s go do it. Bunch of home games with UK and Bama on the road. Not sure I think we go 9-0 but could see 6-3. Finishing out at 11-7 in conference would be an incredible season IMO

We can win our next 5 straight. I agree, 11-7 with the second youngest roster in the nation and zero surefire lottery picks is unheard of. We are in a good spot.

I'm not going out on a limb for 11-7. I'll say more around .500. Anything above .500 in my opinion is gravy. Would be nice to win against some of the experienced teams like Bama, UT, Florida, LSU.

Is Powell ok long term?

I feel for the young guy.
He was going to have a big role.

Powell is still dealing with concussion protocol and problems. I doubt we see him back on the court this year. Bruce said a week ago that even if he was cleared conditioning he is 2 weeks away from playing. Can’t remember where I saw or heard it but someone said Powell had a bad concussion in high school as well.

I don’t want to speculate but there are some long term issues not CTE that can come about from concussions as well and other then referring here I won’t mention it but just take into consideration that a concussion is a brain bruise. Which means damaged tissue. So I’m just wishing him a speedy and full recovery regardless if he plays this year or not.

Starting to doubt Powell comes back this year. Bruce expounded on it more today than he has in the past but basically said Powell came by practice yesterday for the first time in a while (didn't practice just came by to see everyone). BP said he's having a tough time with his school work but they are trying to let his brain heal the right way.

I vote let him sit, get his life and studies together and then take a “wait and see” approach going forward.

Lots of variance on Cooper draft stock. I've looked at 3 reputable mocks with updates this week.
The results:
Wasserman 8th
Givony 9th
NBAdraft.net 2nd round, 2022

I love Cooper but 8th and 9th aren’t likely.

I tend to agree but the highest ever recorded assist rate in college hoops might be enough to tempt someone.. all it takes is one.

A compilation of 5 of the most respected mock draft sites had him going 30th with an average of 26.4. His high was 14th with 3 of the 5 having him outside the first round. At his size he isn't given any passes for not having any particular skill. Add to that he isn't anywhere near ready physically to defend in the NBA and it isn't hard to see why coming back makes sense for him.

I think this, more than anything else, is ultimately what will keep him at Auburn for one more year.

We saw a huge transformation in Harper’s body as he matured at AU. I expect to see the same from Sharife

But how much value does staying bring you?

Let’s say you go from 30 to 10 in the first round. What’s the difference in the contract?

You get a 4 year deal either way but you’re delaying your next contract (a bigger one most likely) another year by staying.

That’s also not factoring in the chances of a severe injury.

Ever since these leagues started capping rookie contracts, it doesn’t make much sense to stay and move yourself up the draft board.

Wasserman and Givony are two of the most respected Draft guys out there.. and they had him at 8th and 9th today and yesterday.

The assist rate is off the charts.

The 30th pick this year got 4m for 2 years guaranteed with a club option for the next 2 years. The 10th pick got 19.3m for 4 years guaranteed. So about double the yearly amount with the 3rd and 4th year guaranteed.

You sure 10th pick got 4 years guaranteed?

Every 1st round rookie contract I’ve seen is always 2 years guaranteed and club option for the next two

Win win for us if you ask me. 3 straight first round picks or he comes back for next year. We are going to need to find an experienced PG in my opinion anyway if we seriously want to make a run next year

Never thought when I was watching some of those Barbee teams I would ever have to worry about having 3 straight first round picks
