I'm in my mid-40's and I still get a six pack around summer. I used to be able to get one through diet and heavy lifting alone, but now I've had to add 20 minutes of cardio pre-workout.
Eating clean and not drinking any alcohol has always been the key for me.

24 minutes of HIIT on the elliptical machine with resistance set at 10 of 20. Last three fast minutes I bumped it to 15/20 and it was killer. Sauna for 10 minutes and back to the office. Starting to really notice a difference in my belt line with pants/shorts and feel better than I have in a while after working out hard. Going to stick to it hard over the next several months until I hit my weight goal and then the lifting will start back up.
