Feel sorry for your knees in your waning years. My uncle used to run marathons and half marathons. Now he walks around with a cane at 63 as his knees are shite. Basically bone on bone but he still tries to stay active. Now he only does spin classes.

Hope your wrong, everything I've read tells me arthritis in the knees is mainly hereditary

The amount that you're running isn't wise.
Unless you're truly truly passionate about running, a born runner type or someone who's training for a marathon, it really doesn't make much sense.
There are so many other ways to do cardio, which is actually arguably not always the smartest thing to do on a regular basis.
I feel like this is an ego thing. I ran X miles at X time and I'll post it for all to see. It helps motivate you. Sure. But I don't think it comes from the right place within.

I only post very few of my runs, it just gives me an excuse to bump the thread, still hoping more will participate in health and fitness discussions. But if it doesn't happen I'll let the thread die. I am planning on looking into rowing machines as you suggested.
I've got a bike but don't feel safe riding it on the streets. Running is easy takes very little planning and it's safe as I'm in a trail or sidewalk 99% of the time.
I am gearing up for a half marathon.

Any specific recommendations on a rowing machine? Being able to stand it up or fold it is paramount. I have no budget constraints.

I almost bought a rowing machine from amazon a while back. I really enjoy them at the gym. I might purchase one after busy season just so i can house of cards workout in my house

I got one in August and posted an early workout in here. Been on a regular schedule since. I used to be a runner, but knees won't let me run more than 2-3 days a week. I got a road bike when I lived in a good place for that, but that's not an option where I live now. I thought swimming or rowing would be the better bets here. Decided on the rowing machine and no regrets at all.
ETA: To keep the thread on track: I rowed a 10k yesterday and did some sprint intervals this morning.

Do you fold it up after each use? Is that a pain?

I have plenty of space for so it stays put. It's easy though, no tools required. It doesn't really fold though. It comes apart into 2 pieces that can be stood up on end (or shoved under a bed, etc.) in seconds.

Yeah it is. My career best was 11 miles and I about died 8 miles in.
9 is one helluva pace for that distance.

11 years ago I did an IM in 12:22. Those are hours and minutes. Did my last IM in 2008. Was my 8th finish. Crossed the line and said I didn't enjoy the day like I should have. Don't think I have ran more than 10 miles in one session sine then. Done some half Mary's with my wife but I don't call that running. Distance running events are about the mental aspect. The physical is secondary.

Oh my latest stats would read more like 12 to 13 minute miles for anything from 3 to 8 miles. Those are off road trail miles because I don't like the road anymore. I run 9 minutes walk 1 minute. Have a dog I am either dragging or being dragged by. Dogs love to head back to the barn so the return is usually a negative split.

Sounds like you are on the perfect tract...just don't get burned out is my advice. Stay consistent and don't beat yourself up if you have a cheat meal/day

How much are you attempting to lose? Three years ago I gave up almost all sugars and carbs. Stick to what most would call a keto eating style but I cheat whenever I need/want to. Most of my carbs come from veggies.
My weight dropped from 197 pounds to 157 at the low. Residing around 163 right now. Probably need to be at 157 for my height and muscle mass at this age but sugar is the devil. Remember that carbs add to your "sugar" intake.
The real benefit is that my blood pressure dropped from borderline high to normal ranges. All this while eating red meat, butter, eggs, cheese and stuff you hear is really bad for you. My doctor has annually reviewed my testing and says.....keep doing what you are doing.
Heck sometimes I even put butter in my coffee.
