Is homecourt advantage really this extreme in SEC basketball?

It seems extremely drastic most of the time. Today, UT beat Auburn at home 71-45, and a 2-8 in the SEC team (MSU) is beating Arky 42-20 as I type this. UK is beating UGA at home by 18 as well. The home team has gone 25-5 in the last 30 basketball games featuring 2 SEC teams, winning by an average of 9.4 ppg. Take out one midweek round, and that number becomes 21-2. It's obviously tough to win on the road, and officiating usually does favor the home team a bit, but I didn't realize it was this lopsided. Good gracious.

There is a decent home court point differential in all of college basketball. I'm pretty sure CBB As a whole has the biggest home advantage of all the sports.

Homecourt advantage is extreme throughout all of college basketball.

It's been like that all over the country this year. Marked home court advantage

This is bigger than just Arkansas though. Tennessee is the exact same way. If Saturday's game between us was in TBA, we probably win by 10 or so just because both teams play well at home and suck on the road.

The teams in the SEC aren't very good.
That's why.

The Hump is a hard place to play regardless of record. That place is so freaking loud with just 5,000 fans.

Could have just said CBB. And yes.
I wish more teams played home and home series before conference play, but it really doesn't make any sense from a scheduling standpoint since you will most likely lose and you don't play on the road in the tourney.

Seriously. Xavier is about to go down, which means no major conference teams have fewer than 3 losses.

IMO homecourt advantage is bigger when there are no dominant teams, like this year in CBB. Then with so many inconsistent teams, the team more comfortable in their own home gym ultimately plays better and wins. UT is an extremely bipolar example, but we are 11-2 at home and 1-10 on the road.

I think the officiating is playing a bit of a role too. I don't think most CBB refs do a good enough job of not letting the home crowd affect them.
Now with them looking for more handchecking calls they can just go crazy with the amount of fouls they call.
I do think how crappy some of the last few recruiting classes have been is having a bit of an impact. 2 of the last 3 classes have been considered pretty weak.
