Mark my words, the NFl will die before the college game, there is emotion in the college game, the pro's are all about money.

A minor league for football would be missing that element: training staff, massive weight rooms and conditioning programs etc.

Well said.
Thanks and you're absolutely correct on the subject of grad students. People don't realize the amount of money they bring in. When I was a GA I was teaching several classes a semester, the primary research assistant on a grant, and doing grad work. I was bringing in tons for the university. Just count the tuition checks for students in each class.

You and others conveniently forget there are UF grads from the Post WWII era onward that have season tickets, and whether it's Jalen or someone else, as long as UF has a football team, those alumni will be buying tickets and attending games and paying booster fees. A huge chunk of revenue has zero to do with individual players.
This is a great point and doesn't get talked about enough in this debate. How much revenue is really driven by the athletes?

I know how a lab works and how many long hours grad students put in. I contend most grad student work isn't difficult, just tedious, and is something many people are capable of doing. And it's not like the grad student system is perfect either. Schools give them way too many teaching responsibilities and they are fighting back against it.
They still do not have the amount of restrictions student athletes have on them. And why is it that because both situations suck that it should remain that way?

FWIW, as would be expected, Tabor has walked back from his comment and said he was wrong to compare it that way.

Entitlement generation at its best. It's sickening what all these kids think they're owed. You get an education, tons of food, "tutors", a platform to showcase your skills to future employers and if football is not a future...you can always have football player of so and so college on your resume. Work your freakin tail off and earn the future money you want or shut your titty baby mouth and let one of a thousand other kids who would love the opportunity you have step up. Start ripping up scholarships of these kids who think they're treated so poorly with their 40k tuition a year

No doubt!

Athletes absolutely bring in more moneyto schools than students
Completely incorrect. Most college athletes are a losing proposition for the schools and cost way more than they bring in.
CFB players certainty bring in more than cost in the SEC but there are currently 0 womens programs making
money or coming close to covering their scholarship cost. Not sure but I'd probably say half the mens basketball
programs make money and maybe the same amount in baseball.

Why does MLK day bring out the worst in some people?

Ask the Cubs or even Titans fans. Fans will show up even in bad times when play is bad. Fans were showing up to Neyland and filling up 100k stadium back when television didn't cover many games and revenue was MUCH lower. Fans at UT literally showed up to watch the grass grow when the astroturf was stripped and we returned to a natural field.
I have a hard time believing that if fans will ask to be let in to see the grass grow that they're going to games because of specific players.

You asserted athletes brought in more. You still haven't backed that up.
No, the work is not something many people are capable of doing. I think you're alluding to undergrad volunteers that usually start by checking in subjects or washing glassware, and so on.
Do you read any of the retractions and corrections to articles these days? Faulty lab procedures, incorrect data entry, etc are all major portions of the causes for these things. Running a Western Blot and similar items is not like running the drive through at Wendy's.
As for your last question - topic too large for this forum.

I just turned 49. Black students actually sued the University of Alabama for the Right to play football during my life time. They even named Bear Bryant as a defendant. May have been his idea, because he was in a political war with Wallace, but it happened.

Now why I agree the football program makes a lot , I'm not sure why these idiots don't understand that there are expenses. The said income not only pays for their sport , but every other sport, not to mention all the full and partial scholarships. The AD has to pay the tuition and books and room and board, the school doesn't just write it off. That's why there is such an issue with full cost of attendance. Ie Miami is a lot more than FSU as is Vandy is to UGA.
In 2014, 29 schools in the P5, including Auburn, Miss St, and both USCs east and west ; including the entire ACC operated in the RED!

Playing football at a university is not a right, is a priviledge, if they want to sue, let them do it and cancel the football program, let see how well they do without the college platform.

It is free. They have the right to not play football at all and try it on their own.
They get trained up, S&C, and play a game they love. Not sure why people try to throw a pity party for those who play college sports. I'm okay with giving them a little money, but the bitching and slave comments are wasted on me.
BS. You make it sound like they get something for nothing. These players sacrifice their health for a school tuition worth about $60k. A player like Clowney, LF, Deshaun Watson, AJ green etc makes a university millions alone. It's not a fair trade off at all. Slavery is not a term that should be used here but quit acting like the players are being done a favor.

Nobody, NOBODY!!!! is fricking forcing them to do it, it is their own will!, if they don't like it they can try it on their fricking own!

Just shows were we are as a society. These kids are suggesting that they are victims. It was just two generations ago that people took great risks to give them the opportunity. I would personally compare football players to Rock stars, not slaves.
