Let's be real, Vanderbilts schedule is much easier than Stanfords, it's not even close. Stanford played Oregon, Notre Dame, USC, and UCLA who are all better than any team Vandy played with the possible exception of Tennessee.

Stanford is currently the 2nd or 3rd most competitive school in the country (after Harvard and Princeton) for admissions. The value and connections in the tech industry is a HUGE recruiting tool for athletes that have good grades for that pool. While almost none of the FB team would sniff being admitted as a regular student, its become a strong brand to promote, similar to how Duke, Notre Dame, Northwestern, and Vandy also promote the value of the degrees
