I have degrees from both, but how would CFB exist if it was just grads?

Being a fan does not require a background check. Elementary schools and prisons are full of all kinds of fans.

Can I be an Andrew Lloyd Webber fan? I can't read music.

This is silly. Many teams have fans who are not ideal. right now Bama is a hot team with the band wagoners, but it will switch to whoever heats up after this run ends.

Is this the thread that Auburn claims they are a small but tight knit family to explain its small fan base?

Are we counting students that went to Southern Union yet say they went to Auburn? Because I know a lot of them.

I got my B.S. from Alabama, since it is apparently of some importance in this thread.

OP, I don't think you understand your own argument. Let me state it for you in two different ways to help you:

Version one:

"Auburn fans are all graduates who actually attended the school. We don't have t-shirt fans. We're a family." ::smug look by OP at this point::

Version two:

"No one cares about my team except those who have a direct commection to it. Objective observers choose other, better teams to pull for." ::smug look by OP at this point::

Do you see the problem?

I know what you mean. Clemson has a lot of them, and even more so now that they're #1.

The entire premise and statement of the OP shows a lack of education on your part. You based your entire post on personal feelings with no credible sources cited. If this is indicative of an Auburn Man or an Auburn education then I understand how your athletes get rumored to being "pushed" through school with bogus classes.

Which sport did you play?

Agree with your post, but let's answer WHY there are more Bama fans... The State School (See UGA, UT, etc.), Bear Bryant, Better Football History, etc.

It is not debatable that Alabama has more t-shirt fans... Auburn is more family. Here are some of the percentages (interactive map)

The site also breaks down fandom county by county. Let's take a look at the counties in the Gulf Coast area.

National Interactive Map

Mobile County is 51.3 percent Alabama fans, 21.5 percent Auburn fans and 7 percent Jags fans.

Baldwin County is 46.7 percent Alabama fans, 26.8 Auburn fans, and 4.7 percent LSU fans.

Escambia County, Alabama primarily pulls for the Tide, at 53.9 percent, the Tigers 27.5 percent and the Gators 2.9 percent.

Clarke County roots for Alabama 53.4 percent, Auburn 30 percent and the LSU Tigers 2.7 percent.

Washington County supports the Tide 59.8 percent, the Tigers 24.7 percent and LSU 2.8 percent.

I say the larger the fanbase, the better. It gets you on television more due to higher ratings, you get more national attention, Gameday comes more often, etc..,

BTW, you are welcome for the increased attention your program receives because you share a state with Bama.

In relation to this weekend's football game in Auburn.

In actual percentages...who do you think comes out larger in the form of percentages in filling Jordan-Hare stadium out this Saturday, in relation to the same criteria at the Iron Bowl being playing at Bryant-Denny?

Jordan-Hare probably gets 75% of of actual graduates in terms of our commitment.

Bryant-Denny might have about 14% when tickets are cheap enough.

I truly cannot stand T-shirt fans. And side-walkers are the absolute worst.

Quality over quantity.

I hate to break it to you but you have almost the exact same number of sidewalk fans as Alabama. As far as who comes to your games there is no data on it. I do know that au has approx 200,000 living alumni. Which means 1 out of every 3 alumni, from around the world, are at JHS. Come on now

Typical Auburn rhetoric. No JHS's population isnt made up of 75% grads. Nobody's is. I know way more Bama grads that attend games than Auburn games but I see it from an Alabama slant like you do Auburn so its skewed. The meager in this country can't afford to go to games anymore so I don't know where the t-shirt crowd is unless you talk about all those Ag students at Auburn that show up with Cowboy boots and spit Skoal during the games. Bama's tuition has been rising , quite honestly, at a rate that makes me uncomfortable. Without a lottery only the academic scholly kids or the families of Alabama's highest valued individuals can go. I believe that was Dr. Witts vision from the start. Not sure why but he didn't call me for my opinion.

I believe Mister Tee is right and not only about Alabama but this holds true for all SEC schools. Now before everyone on the Rant unloads on me let me explain.

No one cares about AU but graduates, present students, sons and daughters of graduates. They have very little national appeal as such those are the only attendees of their games.

Where in all other SEC schools have a broder fan base and while the percentages given by this poster can not be confirmed the premises seems acutely reflect what is occurring.

Auburn University Graduate numbers vs Bama graduates.

This weak, tired "I'm better than you" argument that AU fans bring out every year?

Get over it.

All I really see is:

"No one cares about our second tier school unless they spent tons of money to attend here."

So even though I have a college degree + 20 hrs, because I didn't go to Alabama, I'm not a legitimate fan? And FWIW, I've been following Bama football since the late 1970's.
