USCe is in a hot area for recruits. There isn't enough top DI kids in Missouri year in and year out to field a team.

Better stadium and better fans.

USCe makes a better hire. Mizzou is just a really odd program that Pinkel was the perfect fit for.

Good luck to him and his family.

Regardless of what happens with the hires, I bet Mizzou continues to be more competitive than USCe.

Top 20 class last season? Lock and Beckner both from Missouri. I could keep going, but I'd be wasting finger strength.

I would say these are probably 2 things most coaches don't give a shite about.

Is there some top fans chart I can go look at?

How can this be when Mizzou's worst case scenario is Odom and South Carolina has put all their eggs in the Herman basket.

They either get him and he sucks like 95% of the coaches they've had did, or he does well and he's off to Texas as soon as that job opens up. Or they don't get him and are left scrambling to pick up some SEC reject like Nutt or Chizik.

We are in a much better situation. Just the facts.

Plus let's be honest- the margin of error is larger for Mizzou.

If USCe doesn't nail this next hire and continue the recent positive momentum for the program a rising Clemson could take over the state.

Meanwhile no one threatens Mizzou in their state. In fact the damn NFL might ship off the Rams making Mizzou the only stop for football fans that don't like the Chiefs. They could strike out on a hire and bounce back years later.

Add that to the fact that Mizzou has a roster capable of a very quick turnaround as soon as next year and SC is a complete gut job that will take time to rebuild even if they make a good hire.

Mizzou is way, way out in front here.

If you really believe this, you're dumber than I thought.

And that's saying something, seeing as how you've been yelling into an echo chamber for several pages.

I understand why you are mad. Mizzou has outpaced anything SC has done and it's only taken them 4 years to do it. Add that to Mizzou being in a clearly better position moving forward and I'd be salty too.

no really? you think Mizzou somehow started it? so you didn't watch the news at all or see what happened in SC last summer?

anyway back to the discussion of Mizzou as a destination.

The fact that Pinkel had the success he did tells you exactly HOW GOOD a destination it actually is.

The defense and dline zou had basically carried this team recently, and without it Pinkel has no success in the last 5 years to speak of at all. Much of that comes from being able to get kids like Aldon Smith, Sheldon Richardson, Shane Ray and now Terry Beckner, out of the big metro areas to the east and west of COMO.

If Pinkel had been bright enough and go out and make the OC hire he needed, he might have actually won a conference. His biggest mistake was the overestimation of his own ability to just "train up" an OC, which he's been pretty much a disaster at when you look at the MU coaching history under Pinks.

Mizzou hasn't been good recently because of Pinkel, it's the exact opposite, Pinkel has had success because he's AT MIZZOU. It really is THAT GOOD of a destination job.

The irony of a fan of a Southern school saying this is stunning.

There were folks carping when Bama got a black student body president and of course the racist sororities kerfuffle.

I'm tired of the racial shite too, but don't even try to act like Mizzou has been the only one with issues.

Chief, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the litmus test in the SEC ain't Carolina. Or UGA. Or UTK.

It's Alabama. If you can't compete with them, you're not being competitive. We know we're not competitive yet. Y'all don't. Comparing yourself favorably to our program only makes you look like a child.

Good luck in your coaching search.

Pinkel made it that destination job. His biggest attribute and his biggest flaw are the same thing, loyalty.

I've been saying this for almost two weeks, it's mind numbing to me how people who live in the old confederacy have the gall to call Mizzou a racial shite hole. It's like San Francisco calling Portland gay.

Pinkel didn't put COMO between KC and STL, and he didn't make it the only D1 program and flagship campus in the state, and that, along w/ the fanbase that has supported the rejuvenation of the sports w/ cash, have as much to do with it as Pinkel. He wasn't exactly a world beater in the MAC, one trophy in 9 years is nothing fantastic.

Loyality may have helped keep guys like Odom and Kuligoski around, not saying it isn't a factor, again his big failure is his own overestimation of himself as an OC and OC mentor, he's just not that good. It's clear Pinkel fancies himself an "offensive" coach but his OC's Christensen, average at best, Yost, a disaster and Henson, between a disaster and average show he isn't, at least not a good one. Pinkels coaching tree on that side of the ball is basically a scrub pine after a hurricane.
