I don't get why we play ole miss once this season. I want to play them again. We only play Arkansas once as well.

I'm not going to lie, I am still in shock that we just won those 2 games. Avery Johnson is a wizard.

Good article by Pat Forde

Of the three new basketball coaching hires in the Southeastern Conference last spring, Alabama’s was the least celebrated. Avery Johnson was the choice, and it was a bit of a deflating one for Crimson Tide fans who had gotten their hopes up for Wichita State’s Gregg Marshall. He left Alabama standing at the altar, and ex-NBA coach Johnson was a scrambling, underwhelming contingency plan.

I didn't think it was that great because very few fans were deflated with Avery Johnson. His hire immediately excited 95% of the fanbase. This is also the same writer who said we wanted Richard Pitino though

Lol Richard Pitino
What a disaster that guy is

I was wayyy more excited about Avery Johnson than I was about Marshall. Johnson's NBA and AAU background was enough for me.

Yea, shocking, Forde has no clue the pulse of Alabama people regarding AJ.
Everyone I knew was ecstatic at the ceiling he could have as a recruiter. My assumption was at worst he would be an average in game coach and a really good recruiter. His ability to teach and connect with young kids is an incredible attribute that I thought could happen but didn't know for sure.
I was nervous that Marshall seemed to sign all 3-star kids in Texas. Wasn't sure how his prickly personality would work at Alabama.
We hit a home run.

In his defense, I was told before last season even started that Pitino had been contacted by some of our people. That was before the season had even started though.

WTF? Avery Johnson, even then, was considered by most an amazing plan B. Hell, had I known he was an option and had interest before striking out on Marshall, I would've considered him an equally satisfying hire. Now, I thank the heavens for Mrs. Marshall. I still think Marshall is potentially a top 5 college coach, but I don't think he would have fit what we needed from a recruiting and personality standpoint. Avery was literally the best hire we could have made in my mind.
